About The Position

The North Shore station is seeking a videojournalist. We’re looking for a skilled storyfinder, storyteller and shooter to fill this role. Based in Sept-Îles, the successful candidate will be a creative thinker who brings original ideas and solutions to our news programs and have demonstrated skills in shooting reports for our newscasts. You should be able to travel around the region and be comfortable appearing on air.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ journalism experience or equivalent.
  • Broad general knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of current events.
  • Solid command of French (working language).
  • Strong interviewing, writing and storytelling skills.
  • Knowledge of video and editing techniques.
  • Familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Editorial tests (general knowledge, French grammar and writing).
  • Interview.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
  • Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong proficiency in English is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot video, write scripts and produce reports for newscasts and information programs in line with corporate standards and policies.
  • Keep up with news through a variety of sources.
  • Cultivate a network of sources.
  • Propose and be assigned topics for news stories, reports, interviews and in-depth features.
  • Research, gather, evaluate and vet all material for assigned stories.
  • Plan reports around the story being covered.
  • Conduct interviews, assess their relevance and select the appropriate clips.
  • Scout locations.
  • Set up and operate a light video camera and related equipment.
  • Ensure the highest-quality audio and visuals.
  • Light the subject or scene.
  • Select and shoot footage, and compose program visual material.
  • Ensure that visual material complies with technical and esthetic requirements for broadcast.
  • Review footage and prepare shot and sequence lists.
  • Pitch story angles.
  • Script and narrate reports.
  • Suggest an intro.
  • Write various copy stories in the style appropriate for the platform.
  • Edit your reports.
  • Convey information through various means (news copy, clips, packs, reports, interviews, etc.).
  • Deliver reports on air.
  • Alert the newsroom immediately to any breaking news or special coverage opportunities.
  • Ensure the availability of the resources required to produce your reports.
  • Drive a news vehicle.
  • Ensure your equipment is in proper working order, making minor emergency repairs as needed.
  • Create a library of stock footage and archival material.
  • Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
