About The Position

Radio-Canada Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec is seeking a videojournalist to be based in Drummondville. Reporting to the Associate Managing Editor, Dominique Panebianco, you’ll focus on gathering and presenting daily news stories that deeply resonate with audiences across the Centre-du-Québec region. Most of the content produced will be digital and will be published on the Info app and all other relevant Radio-Canada platforms. To succeed in this role, you must have a sharp talent for both text-based and vertical video storytelling. You’ll need to be self-reliant and do your own newsgathering (videos, photos, interviews, etc.) using your phone and/or light professional equipment. We’re looking for a creative, resourceful, thorough and highly independent journalist who excels at breaking down complex information for the public. You must also be able to thrive under pressure, conduct your own research and newsgathering, and confidently package and present your material across multiple platforms. This position requires a flexible schedule (including irregular hours) and the ability to travel throughout the coverage area in a Radio-Canada vehicle. You’ll bring fresh perspectives and creative approaches to our newscasts, working independently to deliver original, high-quality journalism. You may be asked to cover stories for our other platforms and will have to work flexible hours, often independently. Weekend work may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ journalism experience or equivalent.
  • Extensive general knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of current events.
  • Fluency in the working language: French.
  • Solid command of communication techniques specific to the platform as well as interview techniques.
  • Knowledge of video and editing techniques.
  • Familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Comfortable and dynamic on-air presence.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to generate original story ideas and creative treatments.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, tight-deadline environment, often in unexpected overtime situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Very good knowledge of the other official language (English) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot footage, write copy and produce reports in keeping with corporate standards and policies.
  • Keep up with current events by consulting a variety of sources.
  • Cultivate and maintain a network of local contacts.
  • Scout locations.
  • Set up and operate a light video camera and related equipment.
  • Ensure the highest-quality audio and visuals.
  • Ensure that visual material complies with technical and esthetic requirements for digital distribution.
  • Pitch story angles.
  • Script and narrate reports.
  • Suggest an intro.
  • Write various copy stories in the style appropriate for the platform.
  • Edit your reports.
  • Inform newsroom management of any event that warrants a news flash or special coverage.
  • Ensure the availability of the resources required to produce your reports.
  • Drive a news vehicle.
  • Ensure your equipment is in proper working order.
