About The Position

This position involves performing special duties as assigned, providing additional video support, and assisting the lead videographer. The role will fulfill high priority and high visibility assignments for the Governor's Office, Cabinet offices, VDOT, and other federal, state, and local agencies, as well as routine assignments. The Videographer will contribute to project development by researching and writing information for accurate, concise, and interesting presentations, and assisting with the development of video strategies to achieve client objectives. They will also complete paperwork for each assignment, clean, maintain, and perform minor repairs to video equipment, and assist department and agency employees with basic script writing and storyboarding techniques. Project management responsibilities include planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating logistics and resources. Technical assistance involves documenting and tracking work activities, advising clients on production and editing techniques, consulting on video production to determine desired outcomes, and troubleshooting technical issues with camera, lighting, and audio equipment. Video production entails acquiring footage with appropriate elements, editing raw video, audio, music, text, and graphics into polished productions, backing up all project-related materials, and ensuring retention of raw video. The role also involves aligning video concepts with business objectives and ensuring productions adhere to industry standards, regulations, and best practices, including copyright laws, contracts, and ethical considerations.

  • Skill in the use and maintenance of broadcast-quality video equipment.

  • Ability to craft compelling narratives through visual storytelling, including scriptwriting, storyboarding, and understanding of pacing and structure.
  • Knowledge of post-production editing such as cutting, color grading, sound design, and visual effects.
  • Skill in capturing high quality audio and editing techniques.
  • Skill in directing actors, presenters, and crew.
  • Skill in the use of camera equipment and accessories including camera settings, shooting techniques, framing, composition, and focus.
  • Skilled in managing video production projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating logistics and resources effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Video Production, Broadcasting, Communications or related field desired.
  • Experience in videography in a public relations or government environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist department and agency employees with basic script writing and storyboarding techniques to produce specific small audience presentations or for use for in developing large scale productions.
  • Manage video production projects including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating logistics and resources effectively.
  • Document and track all work activities on the work log.
  • Advise clients on proper video production and editing techniques while on location or in the studio.
  • Consult with clients on minor and simple video production to determine the desired finished product.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues including malfunctions related to camera, lighting, and audio to ensure efficient production.
  • Produce video by acquiring footage with appropriate locations, backgrounds, narration, music, lighting, props, and photographic, sound and video equipment.
  • Edit, author and incorporate raw video, audio, music, text, still images and computer-generated graphics into productions ensuing high quality and polished results.
  • Back up all project and program-related items, including archived materials.
  • Ensure retention of raw video for assigned projects.
  • Align create video concepts with business objectives, contributing to project and brand strategy.
  • Ensures production follows industry standards, regulations, and best practices including copyright laws, contracts, and ethical considerations.
