About The Position

The Videographer & Editor is responsible for creating high-quality video and photography that tells the YMCA’s story, highlights its mission and impact, and supports marketing and communications efforts across the organization. This role manages projects from concept through completion, including planning, filming, photography, editing, and delivery. Working closely with the marketing team and YMCA staff, this position creates visual content for campaigns, social media, digital marketing, websites, events, programs, fundraising, and other organizational priorities. The role requires strong visual storytelling, technical expertise, creativity, attention to detail, team collaboration and the ability to manage multiple projects across YMCA locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in videography, film production, video editing or a related field is required (or equivilant experience).
  • Three to four (3–4) years of proven experience in video production and editing, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused setting.
  • Strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing video and photography work is required.
  • Proficiency with professional video equipment, cameras, audio, lighting, and other video and photography equipment.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills and the ability to plan and visualize content before production.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Experience with mobile editing apps.
  • Strong understanding of video and photography composition, lighting, audio, editing, and production techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Creative sense that thrives across a variety of genres including quick, short social media videos as well as short-form and long-form documentary style videos.
  • Must be able to handle and meet multiple deadlines and possess strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Technical aptitude and the ability to learn new tools, technology, and production techniques quickly.
  • Perform problem analysis and resolution at strategic and functional levels in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to think and act independently based on established organizational priorities.
  • Strong ability to function as a team-member, with a strong focus on customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, produce, and edit long-form video content that tells the YMCA’s story and highlights its mission, impact, programs, members, staff, volunteers, and community.
  • Manage all phases of video production, including concept development, filming, lighting, audio, editing, and final delivery.
  • Capture compelling interviews, b-roll, and supporting footage that create an emotional connection and strengthen storytelling.
  • Create engaging short-form video content for social media, digital marketing, and other platforms.
  • Capture timely content at YMCA programs, events, and locations and identify opportunities to repurpose existing footage.
  • Adapt video content for platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, following platform-specific best practices.
  • Stay current on video, social media, editing, and storytelling trends and apply relevant trends in a timely, brand-aligned way.
  • Plan, capture, and edit high-quality photography for YMCA events, programs, campaigns, facilities, and community activities.
  • Provide professional headshots and staff photography for leadership, employees, volunteers, and other organizational needs.
  • Build and maintain a strong library of current photography for use across digital, print, social media, website, and other marketing channels.
  • Maintain and organize professional video and photography equipment, including cameras, lenses, audio, lighting, storage devices, and related production tools.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, charged, updated, and ready for use; identify repair, replacement, and equipment needs.
  • Manage video and photography files throughout the production process, including footage backup, project files, working files, and final exports while following established processes for file storage, backup, naming, retention, and organization.
  • Ensure all video and photography aligns with YMCA brand standards, creative direction, strategic priorities, and standards of quality.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team, branch staff, and program leaders to identify stories, develop content, and support marketing and communications needs.
  • Build relationships with staff, members, volunteers, donors, and community partners to uncover and capture meaningful stories.
  • Serve as a creative resource to internal stakeholders, helping identify opportunities where video and photography can strengthen marketing, storytelling, and communication.
  • Maintain video and photography assets in an organized and logical manner using the YMCA’s digital asset management system and other established storage platforms.
  • Ensure raw footage, completed videos, photographs, project files, b-roll, and other assets are properly named, categorized, and accessible.
  • Maintain an organized catalog of visual assets so the marketing team can easily locate and repurpose existing content.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to capture evergreen content and strengthen the YMCA’s visual asset library.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while balancing planned productions with timely content needs.
  • Work independently, take initiative, and identify opportunities for compelling visual content across the YMCA.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends for events, program coverage, interviews, and other production needs.
  • Uphold the YMCA mission, brand, values, and voice while fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and community engagement.
