About The Position

Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide support in the Video Visitation work unit within the Department of Detention and Community Programs of the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification perform specialized duties monitoring inmate video visitation for security and policy infractions. Position performs security screenings of potential video visitation accounts, verifies visitor identities prior to visits to the center, and updates and manages current visitation accounts. Position functions under direct supervision with regular review for accuracy and adherence to prescribed standards.

Requirements

  • Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of previous experience and/or training in administrative support functions to include high volume telephone reception, record keeping, filing, data entry and typing, photocopying, scanning, facsimile machines and providing customer service to clients via in person and/or over the phone.
  • Possess experience in the use of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software for the maintenance of files and documents, and generating of reports, memos, and documents of general or confidential nature.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions which affect job performance.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors inmate video visitation for security and policy infractions.
  • Acts as liaison between BSO and Community Service providers to assist in scheduling and with general assistance.
  • Verifies visitor identities prior to visits in center.
  • Performs security screenings of potential video visitation accounts.
  • Updates and manages current video visitation accounts.
  • Maintains direct communication with all BSO jail facilities on current and upcoming video visitation appointments.
  • Meets and greets the public, providing response to questions for standard information and providing explanation of well-defined rules.
  • Takes telephone inquiries and complaints, ascertaining the nature of the call, and directing it to the appropriate entity; takes telephone messages.
  • Performs basic record keeping duties, and maintains accurate filing of unit records, reports, and documentation.
  • Performs light keyboard work in data entry and/or the processing of routine unit data.
  • Makes copies of various records, reports and documentation, and distributes to appropriate entities.
  • Receives, sorts, screens and distributes incoming mail; prepares out-going mail.
  • Operates various office equipment, i.e., computers, printers, scanners, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Acts as liaison between supervisors, other departments, and outside agencies, gathering and relaying information as needed.
  • Assists other unit personnel in supporting efficient functioning of the work unit.
  • Performs high volume telephone reception in responding to multiple inquiries; provides information and explanation of well-defined rules applicable to area of assignment.
  • Performs related duties as directed.
