About The Position

Radio-Canada is seeking a dynamic Video Producer to drive the development and production of digital-first video content for our Atlantic regions (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador). In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager of News and Programming (N.S./P.E.I./N.L.) and the station’s Digital Producer. You are a highly creative storyteller with a proven track record in videography and video editing. You are well versed in the various camera systems used at CBC/Radio-Canada and possess a deep understanding of digital trends — specifically vertical video creation and online video best practices. Beyond your technical skills, you are passionate about current affairs and Atlantic Canadian news. You are someone who thrives in a collaborative team environment but is always looking for ways to break the mould and engage audiences differently.

Requirements

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from university and five (5) years’ practical and relevant experience, or graduation from community college and seven (7) years’ practical and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, research, develop and produce visual story items, including shooting and editing both video and still images.
  • Your work will adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices but there is latitude for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.
  • Occasionally, there may be a requirement to co-ordinate the work of others.
  • Conceive and develop story and video ideas and concepts for digital platforms.
  • Develop the story content, at times in conjunction with one or more journalists, including the researching, writing and/or editing of written material.
  • Determine the style, pace, tempo and format of the story item.
  • Perform location surveys and identify special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles, production limitations, etc.
  • Book facilities required for the production, shooting, editing and assembly of material.
  • Write material, prepare questions and develop background on stories and interview subjects.
  • Develop shot list and sequences that contribute to the focus and mood of the story.
  • Prepare, align, set up and operate the camera and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Light the subject or scene and compose program visual material using a hand-held camera.
  • Ensure that the material produced meets technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
  • Shoot or oversee the shooting of program material.
  • Edit or direct the editing of recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
  • Perform final edit.
  • Report the story, either on camera or in voice-over form.
  • Arrange for and conduct interviews.
  • Maintain a basic library of stock footage and archival information.
  • Perform routine minor maintenance on camera, editing and associated equipment.
  • In the field, carry out emergency repairs to camera and/or equipment.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for performers and crew.
  • Provide talent and crew with feedback to assist their performance.
