Video Journalist (Iqaluit)
About The Position
This role involves covering news events and issues facing Indigenous communities, both locally and globally. The Video Journalist will pitch story ideas, develop stories for multi-platform use, conduct interviews, and complete all aspects of video production from rough cuts to final edits. They will utilize HD technology and remote transmission equipment to send stories to the desk in Winnipeg and collaborate with Broadcast Technologists on technical matters. The position requires the ability to work independently, shooting, writing, and editing one's own stories, and may involve representing APTN publicly.
Requirements
- A degree/diploma in journalism or related field with proven experience related to journalism
- Hands on experience with news line-up script software, broadcast HD cameras and AVID editing
- A sensitivity and understanding of culture and issues relevant to Indigenous communities
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of broadcast technology
- A valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract
- A strong spirit of collaboration, dependability, positivity and a love what you do attitude
Responsibilities
- Provide coverage of issues facing Indigenous communities locally, nationally and worldwide
- Cover daily news events
- Pitch original story ideas for APTN National News and Current Affairs
- Develop stories for multi-platform use including evaluating leads/tips, interviewing sources as assigned or necessary
- Complete rough and final edits, outputs the final product
- Coordinate and feeds edited and raw material
- Use HD technology and remote transmission equipment to feed quality stories to the desk in Winnipeg
- Work closely with Broadcast Technologists on technical, maintenance and repair issues, and may perform preventive and minor equipment maintenance
- Showcase original story ideas that will be viewed on multiple platforms
- May represent APTN on-air and/or in public forums
- Shoot, write and edit own stories independently
