About The Position

The US Sun is seeking a talented and driven Video Journalist specializing in politics, based in Washington, D.C. This role involves covering key American stories from Capitol Hill to the White House and beyond. As part of the growing US video team, you will produce compelling, fast-paced video content, including sharp, short-form vertical videos and longform series, to bring political reporting to life across the site and social platforms. The ideal candidate can make complex political stories urgent, accessible, and unmissable, demonstrating a strong command of modern mobile and digital video storytelling, a sharp political news sense, and the ability to move quickly in a breaking news environment. This is an in-office position in Washington, D.C., with regular attendance expected four days per week, and some flexibility for remote work.

Requirements

• Solid understanding of US politics and the Washington media landscape
• Proven video editing skills, including proficiency in Adobe Premiere
• Experience creating original video content incorporating footage, stills, graphics and audio
• Strong news judgment and the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-moving environment
• Experience covering politics, government or breaking news in a video or broadcast role
• Comfortable producing and directing shoots, including on-camera interviews
• Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional newsroom environment
• Flexible availability to respond to a dynamic and unpredictable news cycle
• Ability to make fast editorial decisions under deadline pressure
• Have an enviable contacts book

• Design and motion graphics skills (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Responsibilities

• Script, produce, edit and publish short-form vertical video content focused on US politics and Washington affairs
• Monitor the political news cycle and identify stories with strong video potential across breaking news and enterprise reporting
• Work closely with the US Sun’s editors to develop visually compelling video formats
• Interview politicians, analysts and experts both in the field and in studio settings
• Collaborate with the wider video and editorial team to bring the best of our political journalism to new and existing audiences
• Uphold the US Sun's commitment to fast, accurate and engaging journalism
