About The Position

The Video Advance Scout studies opposing hitters and turns video, scouting observations, and available performance data into clear, practical information for the Major League staff and players. The role travels with the Major League team throughout the 162-game regular season and works directly with the clubhouse to support preparation for each opponent. This position works with the pitching coach, catchers, pitchers, and quantitative analysts to connect opponents' tendencies with our pitchers' strengths and arsenals. The Video Advance Scout communicates the plan in concise written and visual formats, invites feedback, and helps the group refine its approach as new information emerges during a series and a game.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in baseball advance scouting, video analysis, coaching, player development, baseball analytics, or a related role, or equivalent demonstrated ability to evaluate hitters and communicate useful findings.
  • Strong understanding of hitting approaches, pitcher arsenals, pitch characteristics, sequencing, and how matchups inform a game plan.
  • Ability to analyze video and quantitative information, distinguish meaningful patterns from limited samples, and turn observations into practical recommendations.
  • Clear, concise writing and the ability to create visual materials that players and coaches can absorb and use quickly.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and the judgment to collaborate with Major League coaches, catchers, pitchers, and analysts in a fast-moving clubhouse environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage deadlines across a 162-game schedule, and adapt plans as conditions and opponents change.
  • Willingness and ability to travel with the Major League team for the full regular-season schedule and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive baseball information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing advanced reports or supporting Major League game planning for hitters or pitchers.
  • Familiarity with baseball video platforms, tracking data, and data visualization tools used to evaluate hitters and matchups.
  • Experience working directly with professional players and coaching staffs and incorporating multiple perspectives into a shared plan.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Review opponent hitter video, scouting reports, and available data to identify approach, swing characteristics, strengths, vulnerabilities, and situational tendencies.
  • Create concise written scouting reports and visual materials that translate findings into specific, usable recommendations for pitchers, catchers, and coaches.
  • Work with the pitching coach, catchers, pitchers, and quantitative analysts to develop individualized plans that reflect each pitcher’s arsenal and the current opponent.
  • Present and discuss advanced information with the Major League staff and players; answer questions, incorporate firsthand observations, and adjust the level of detail to the audience.
  • Prepare for each series on the team’s schedule, maintain organized opponent materials, and deliver updates in time for staff and player preparation.
  • Observe games and identify changes in opponent behavior or approach; communicate timely updates and help revise plans in coordination with the coaching staff, consistent with applicable Club and league rules.
  • Compare pre-series expectations with game observations and outcomes to improve future reports, recommendations, and communication.
  • Build working relationships across the clubhouse and Baseball Operations, handling sensitive information with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Work independently through large volumes of video and information while balancing recurring advanced work with immediate needs during the season.
