About The Position

The District Attorney's office is hiring for a Victim Witness Specialist! This position is for a Victim Witness Specialist at the District Attorney's Office, helping victims of crime through the criminal justice process. Join our team of dedicated professionals in the Victim Witness Division. This job is a standard workweek (8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday). This position does not require on-call responsibilities, but occasional after-hours meetings may be required. After a successful probationary period, telecommuting may be available once a week. Travel to other jurisdictions to participate in special prosecutions or in remote offices is sometimes required. Requirements

  • Experience assisting with data collection and meeting grant reporting requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system, prosecution processes, crisis intervention, and victim/witness interviewing techniques.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and preparing reports in compliance with program standards.
  • Comfort using standard software and business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and community resources relevant to victim/witness programs.
  • Ability to respond effectively to conflict and provide empathetic support while gathering critical information.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities; public service experience, and experience working with victims and/or witnesses preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Providing victims of crimes with victim impact statements and advising victims of their right to be heard at court proceedings, sentence hearings, and plea agreement acceptances; composing comprehensive memos that contain victims' recommendations and input.
  • Providing advocacy and immediate crisis intervention for victims of crime.
  • Assessing immediate victim needs and providing referrals and follow-up services to victims, witnesses, and their families.
  • Ensuring victims are aware of their rights under the Victim Rights Act and Colorado Law.
  • May inform victims of their rights to notifications post-sentence.
  • Setting up and participating in meetings with victims as requested.
  • Attending, if needed, any or all stages of the criminal justice process with the victim/witness.
  • Advises victims of the policies and procedures pertaining to criminal protection orders and may advise victims of post-sentencing notification rights; provides copies of orders to the victim and collateral agencies.
  • Referring victims to collateral agencies, including community resources, law enforcement agencies, and legal resources, as needed.
