About The Position

Aldevra is seeking a qualified Victim Witness Assistant to support the United States Attorney's Office Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, clear communication skills, and a willingness to be adaptable. Requirements

  • Must be able to maintain government issued badge.
  • Must be able to pass a credit check.
  • This position requires passing an extensive background check.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while entering information into tracking systems, researching resources, maintaining calendars, and preparing correspondence.
  • Ability to read and review electronic and printed documents for extended periods, including case information, court schedules, victim correspondence, and resource materials.
  • Ability to frequently use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, scanner, printer, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk periodically throughout the workday to attend meetings, assist with court events, retrieve records, and coordinate with staff.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry files, boxes, binders, office supplies, or other materials, consistent with normal office requirements.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and occasionally lift or carry materials when retrieving or organizing records and supplies.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move boxes, binders, case files, records, and office materials, potentially weighing up to approximately 25–30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an environment where duties may involve prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and interacting with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with victims, witnesses, attorneys, staff, and community service providers.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when screening inquiries and providing information.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when interacting with individuals experiencing distress.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Communication, and trauma informed training.
  • Must have 2+ years of experience working in the field of victim services and criminal justice.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as a team member and with other federal, state, county and local entities.
  • Excellent ability to work independently.
  • Must interact appropriately, demonstrate sensitivity to crime victims from diverse communities, exercise good judgement and establish a rapport with various city state, and federal entities.
  • Valid Real-ID state-issued driver's license
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and telephone manner

  • Proficient in Windows operating systems; online calendars and cloud systems; intermediate to advanced skills Microsoft office products required

Responsibilities

  • Assist program Victim Witness Coordinator and Victim Witness Specialists with logistics of court events by assisting with issues concerning employer, preparing witnesses to testify by explaining processes and procedures and resources available to them (e.g., Victim Compensation Assistance Program, and other services) providing information on victim impact statements.
  • Provides information to victims on schedule changes, status of defendants’ pleas, trial results: status and term of defendants’ incarceration.
  • Orients victim on the Crime Victim Compensation Program and provides information on eligibility and application procedures.
  • Responds to victim inquiries by providing initial screening of victim concerns and determining eligibility for services based on prescribed criteria.
  • In consultation with program Coordinator and Specialists and following USAO guidelines and instruction, provides routine information about community organizations that offer medical, psychological, legal, financial, shelter, childcare and employment services to victims and witnesses based on their unique needs.
  • Inputs data related to their daily work product into the Victim Service Tracking System (VSTS).
  • Research returned mail and coordinates the remailing of notification letters with the assigned Victim Witness Specialist.
  • Coordinates with team members and support staff the coordination of court support.
  • Coordinates with team members and support staff with the processing of fact witness vouchers.
  • Manages a calendar of active victim cases which includes keeping track of hearings, trial dates, and sentencing dates.
  • Develops and maintains a tracking system of on-going cases and keeps program Coordinator and Specialists informed of the status of ongoing cases.
  • Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.
  • Research and collect resources and information for crime victims and witnesses as the need arises.
  • Assist and provide support with National Crime Victim Rights’ Week.
  • All other duties as assigned.
