About The Position

Join the energetic team of Safe Harbor staff committed to serving individuals, families, and the community impacted by the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. Responsible for responding to service needs of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, assisting with program and facility needs, and assisting with community education and outreach activities as assigned. This includes providing non-resident and crisis intervention services for victims of domestic violence/sexual assault, their families, and the community by tending to shelter, answering hotline calls, assisting walk-ins, and meeting with victims one-on-one.

Excellent judgment and an ability to exercise discretion and tact in difficult or confidential situations.
High degree of flexibility and the ability to problem solve and make decisions individually and within a team.
Ability to communicate articulately and interact comfortably and effectively with staff, funders, board, community partners, and governmental agencies.
Ability to work with both youth and adults with a commitment to and experience in working with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds and lifestyles.
Able to use stairs frequently and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
A driver’s License and a clean driving record are required.

Nice To Haves

College degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology or related field and/or equivalent relevant experience.
Bilingual a plus

Responsibilities

Provide coverage of the 24-hour hotline, shelter, and walk-in services.
Provide direct services including crisis intervention, advocacy, life skills training, parenting support, legal and medical advocacy, information and referrals, safety planning, and goal setting for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate service agencies in the community, which will enhance overall service delivery to residential clients. Including but not limited to; substance abuse care and treatment, health care, sexual assault, children’s services, and mental health care and transition.
Assist with shelter intakes, orientations, and discharge of residents.
Accompany victims/survivors at court, local hospitals, law enforcement, and community organizations.
Responsible for data entry and maintaining accurate agency records.
Attend all staff meetings and board meetings as requested.
Maintain a clean, professional appearance of the facility by following protocol for accepting and storing donations, keeping storage areas organized, cleaning, making small repairs, and other tasks as assigned.
Must be able to represent the mission, values, and philosophy of Safe Harbor to program participants, employees, and the general public.
Model and promote attitudes of non-violence, anti-oppression, inclusiveness, and power-sharing in all facets of position responsibilities, especially when working with community partners.
Be an outspoken voice against violence against women and children, teen dating violence, sexual assault, rigid gender roles, and norms of masculinity within the community through conversation, trainings, social media, and one-on-one conversations.
