About The Position

Lethbridge School Division invites applications for the position of Vice Principal, seeking innovative, open-minded leaders who approach life as a learner and inspire others to do the same. The School Lethbridge Alternative Schools and Programs (LASP) is an umbrella grouping of schools that offer uniquely designed educational services to individuals within Lethbridge School Division and also to students across the Province who are supported within inter-ministerial, institutional programs. Formal schools and programs under the LASP umbrella include: Victoria Park High School (Outreach High School), Grade 9 Alternative Program, Community Outreach School (COS grades 6-9), DLA (Developing Lifelong Assets – Therapeutic School Program), Pathways Program, OCAHS – Off Campus Alternative High School, Harbour House School, Child and Youth Day Program School (Mental Health Program – Hospital location), Stafford Ridge Youth Treatment Centre School, Pitawani Youth Treatment Centre School (Sifton), Fast Forward Program (LethSD High School Completion Program), Lethbridge School Division Summer School. Administrators of LASP support a variety of programs and schools within their individual portfolios, with the largest population served at Victoria Park High School. An Outreach High School within the Division, Victoria Park is a welcoming and diverse learning community committed to providing deep care to the students and families it serves. It supports over 350 students from grades 10 to 12, with a focus on programs addressing a breadth of unique learning opportunities that encourage responsible choices within flexible learning environments, suited to all learning styles. Victoria Park High School strives to maximize individual potential with the goal of providing students with access to opportunities to experience education, work and life. At Victoria Park, high school students move forward on their individual paths, connecting value and purpose to their choices. The mission of the school is to provide genuine alternative school experiences to support students as they move toward their preferred future. Candidates applying for the role of Vice Principal of LASP will be asked to commit to supporting a rotation in the LASP Summer School Program which runs through the month of July each year.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of innovative pedagogy and leading learning, including inquiry-based learning, comprehensive literacy and numeracy instruction.
  • Have a commitment to inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all students.
  • Have a solid understanding of and commitment to Indigenous ways of knowing.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal professional growth and reflection with a learner mindset.
  • Have a deep understanding of the nature of learning, and how to strategically and successfully lead a learning community.
  • Applicants must possess or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Completion of or enrolled in both; Master’s degree in education.
  • Leadership Quality Standard certification.
  • Exemplary teaching experience is necessary.
  • A police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification may be a valid driver’s license, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
