About The Position

The Vice Principal is an instructional and operational leader of the school, responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing learning environment where all students and staff can thrive. The Vice Principal supports the Principal in providing strategic leadership in teaching and learning, supports staff growth and development, builds strong relationships with students, families, and the broader community, and ensures the effective day-to-day management of the school in alignment with provincial policies, standards, and system priorities.

Requirements

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Masters degree directly related to the position (ILA Diploma in Instructional Leadership, Leadership, OR Educational Administration)
  • Completion of the SSRCE Aspiring School Administrators Program, NSELC ALP Program or equivalent
  • Administrative Experience PP-9
  • Teaching Experience P-9
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse Register Check
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Checks

Responsibilities

  • Support the Principal in providing strategic leadership in teaching and learning.
  • Support staff growth and development.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and the broader community.
  • Ensure the effective day-to-day management of the school in alignment with provincial policies, standards, and system priorities.
  • Create a learning climate that is equitable, inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive.
  • Fulfill responsibilities, model professional standards of conduct, and act with integrity.
  • Maintain a system-wide focus on effective teaching, learning, and assessment to keep every student engaged, challenged, and motivated.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and critical reflection to identify opportunities for improving leadership, teaching, and learning.
  • Ensure safe, fair, and respectful environments where all members are welcomed, accepted, valued, and have a sense of belonging.
  • Facilitate change for improvement and are knowledgeable and strategic in response to evidence of student and system needs.
  • Recognize that building respectful trusting relationships and strong partnerships is vital in meeting the needs of all students.
  • Collaboratively manage inclusive educational environments, human resources, finances, and operations to ensure safe and orderly day-to-day operations.
