About The Position

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a senior tax executive to establish the Company's in-house tax function and design a best-in-class hybrid model. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the VP of Tax will take direct ownership of the global income tax provision while overseeing a Third-Party Provider (“TPP”) managing the Company's tax compliance, planning, and advisory needs. The Company is transitioning from a full outsourced tax model to a hybrid structure. Under this approach, the VP of Tax will take direct ownership of core functions: including the global income tax provision (ASC 740), tax accounting and the close process, tax technology platform ownership, internal controls, and strategic tax planning oversight. They will also manage the relationship and scope with our third-party provider (TPP). The specialized or compliance-heavy functions will remain co-sourced, such as U.S. federal and state income tax compliance, international income tax compliance, transfer pricing documentation, M&A advisory, indirect tax (VAT/GST, sales and use tax), and BEPS/Pillar II filings.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive tax experience, with a combination of Big 4 public accounting and in-house corporate tax.
  • Expert-level knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting and SEC reporting for a consolidated U.S. public company.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing U.S. federal and state income tax compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage external advisors and co-sourcing relationships, including scope definition, fee management, and quality oversight.
  • Experience with international tax concepts
  • Track record of process improvement or tax technology implementation initiatives.
  • Strong people leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; CPA.

Nice To Haves

  • J.D. (Tax) or LL.M. in Taxation strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience transitioning from a fully outsourced to a hybrid or in-house tax model.
  • Hands-on experience with tax technology platforms.
  • M&A tax experience, including diligence, structuring, and post-acquisition integration.

Responsibilities

  • Own the global income tax provision process end-to-end, including current and deferred tax calculations, effective rate analysis, and valuation allowance assessments.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures.
  • Manage the primary relationship with the external auditors on all tax accounting matters, serving as the point of contact for Audit team.
  • Establish and maintain robust tax accounting policies, controls, and documentation.
  • Oversee uncertain tax position (UTP) analysis, FIN 48 / ASC 740-10 reserve calculations, and related disclosures.
  • Serve as the primary internal steward of the TPP relationship — managing scope, fees, deliverable quality, and accountability against agreed service levels.
  • Define and enforce a clear division of responsibilities between internal staff and TPP.
  • Review TPP work product prior to filing, including federal, state, and international returns and transfer pricing documentation.
  • Oversee all U.S. federal and state income tax compliance activities managed by TPP, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with provision positions.
  • Provide oversight of international tax compliance across all jurisdictions, including review of foreign income tax returns prepared by TPP and local advisors.
  • Monitor transfer pricing policy adherence, intercompany agreements, and documentation requirements, including country-by-country reporting.
  • Oversee indirect tax obligations globally, including VAT/GST, sales & use tax, and customs, in partnership with TPP and specialist advisors.
  • Manage and coordinate federal, state, and international tax audits, working with TPP.
  • Oversee IRS exam activity, including information document requests (IDRs), protest letters, and Appeals proceedings, in coordination with TPP.
  • Develop and execute a proactive global tax strategy that minimizes the Company's effective tax rate.
  • Advise on the tax implications of strategic initiatives, including M&A.
  • Partner with TPP on modeling and implementation of tax planning strategies.
  • Design the structure of the hybrid tax team.
  • Define the right long-term balance between insourced headcount and co-sourced support as g the model as the business evolves.
  • Conduct review of the current tax process landscape, identifying inefficiencies, manual touchpoints, and technology gaps in the existing TPP-managed model.
  • Design and implement optimized, scalable tax processes from data sourcing through filing, provision, and management reporting.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of a tax technology stack
  • Partner with Finance, IT, and ERP teams to ensure tax data requirements are embedded in source systems, reducing manual data extraction and reconciliation.
