About The Position

As a Vice President, Strategy, you are responsible for shaping and delivering strategy in service of Vancity’s vision and values. You will ensure that enterprise strategy efforts centre member needs, advance financial sustainability and business objectives, and deepen and scale impact. You will provide enterprise leadership across Enterprise Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions, Innovation, and Government Relations & Policy Engagement, working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Board, and external partners to translate strategy into action. This role has a strong internal lens - acting as a connector across functions and ensuring strategy is lived, not just articulated - alongside an important external lens, building Vancity’s brand presence and profile through engagement with existing and prospective partners. This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Chief Strategy Officer. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise strategy, transformation, consulting, or related roles
  • Senior leadership experience within a complex organization, such a consultancy, financial institution, cooperative, public sector, or regulated organization
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide strategy development and large-scale transformation initiatives
  • Experience working with executive teams and Boards, including preparation of strategic and performance materials

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development and annual refresh of the enterprise strategy and business plan, as guided by Vancity’s vision and values, a member-centric lens, and the direction of the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership
  • Monitoring the external environmental and keeping a pulse on the economic, industry, social, environmental, and other areas to identify opportunities and position Vancity appropriately
  • Guiding the translation of strategy into enterprise scorecards, KPIs, and performance frameworks that reflect both financial and non-financial outcomes
  • Monitoring progress and supporting the enterprise governance of progress against strategic priorities - identifying risks, trade-offs, and opportunities for course correction
  • Setting and implementing strategic direction for mergers, acquisitions, and partnership opportunities aligned with Vancity’s enterprise strategy, growth objectives, and impact priorities
  • Overseeing the development and advancement of Vancity’s pipeline of evaluated opportunities, ensuring disciplined assessment of strategic fit, impact, risk, and value creation
  • Guiding end‑to‑end M&A strategy and tactics, including opportunity identification, cultivation, due diligence, valuation, decision frameworks, and deal closing
  • Partnering with Finance, Legal, Risk, Impact, and Business Lines to ensure transactions are rigorously evaluated and effectively governed
  • Supporting post‑transaction integration planning to realize intended strategic, financial, and impact outcomes
  • Overseeing priority innovation portfolios and initiatives that advance strategic objectives, improve member experience, and further impact priorities
  • Stewarding enterprise capability in innovation practices, tools, and ways of working, fostering experimentation, learning, and disciplined delivery
  • Enabling cross‑functional collaboration to move ideas from concept to implementation, scaling those with demonstrated value and impact
  • Ensuring innovation investments are aligned with strategy, resourced appropriately, and governed with clear success measures
  • Supporting the growth and development of Vancity’s presence in the market as a leader in innovation
  • Guiding and stewarding Vancity’s enterprise government relations and public policy agenda, aligning advocacy priorities with enterprise strategy, cooperative principles, and long‑term community impact objectives
  • Serving as a senior executive voice in engagements with federal, provincial, and municipal governments, including Ministers, political staff, senior public servants, and Crown agencies. Build and maintain trusted, long‑term relationships with sector partners
  • Integrating public policy intelligence and environmental scanning into enterprise strategy, identifying emerging legislative, regulatory, and political trends that present risks or opportunities for Vancity
  • Guiding the development of evidence‑based policy positions, advocacy briefs, and submissions that advance priorities
  • Overseeing the measurement and reporting of government relations outcomes, moving beyond activity tracking to demonstrate strategic influence, policy impact, and alignment with enterprise goals
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the CSO and executive leadership team on all four departmental areas
  • Supporting the CSO in planning for and facilitating executive and Board strategy forums and discussions, ensuring priority topics are surfaced, discussions are designed with key outcomes in mind, and integrating outputs into strategy and planning
  • Ensuring the preparation of clear, compelling materials for the Board and Board Committees related to all four departmental areas
  • Representing Vancity, as appropriate, in sector, community, and strategic forums
  • Building and leading high-performing teams across all four areas of oversight
