About The Position

The Vice President, Sector Lead Investment Originations will be primarily responsible for leading originations and business development for OFN’s Investment Services team. With over $500 million of primarily debt investments under management across over 180 investees, OFN’s Investment Services team will continue its core balance-sheet CDFI lending activity and execute new capital solutions under OFN’s recently launched CDFI Innovation Initiative. The VP, Sector Lead Investment Originations serves as the market lead and expert for their designated sector(s). They will develop relationships with OFN’s members, recommend new investment strategies, and underwrite investments and passthrough grants. They will represent OFN at industry events and become a sector resource for members. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 7-10 years direct work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 12+ years of finance-related professional experience required such as microfinance, lending, impact investing, investment banking, or private equity.
  • 8+ years of finance-related experience with a graduate degree.
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience with financial statement analysis, financial modeling, credit analysis, or debt underwriting is required.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and presenting detailed investment recommendations with an emphasis on clarity, conciseness, and relevance.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling/analysis experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Exceptional writing skills including experience presenting complex subject matter to nonexperts in understandable terms.
  • Related experience in underwriting and structuring investment strategies that generate positive social impact related to community and economic development (i.e., affordable housing, entrepreneurship, quality jobs, financial inclusion).

  • Understanding of loan and equity documentation and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Some travel (15% of time).
  • Job involves normal physical requirements for an office position.

Nice To Haves

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or master’s degree in a relevant field of study.
  • Experience with the CDFI industry, microfinance, or impact investing.
  • Experience with investing in or analyzing financial institutions and/or nonprofits.

Responsibilities

  • Leads originations and business development for OFN’s investments in their designated sector(s).
  • Develops investment strategies and underwriting guidelines for debt, equity, and passthrough grant investments.
  • Stays abreast of designated sector trends and opportunities and shares insights with OFN and members.
  • Leads the underwriting of both designated sector-related and CDFI general balance sheet investments.
  • Analyzes CDFI financial statements, loan portfolios, lending policies and procedures, management teams, and strategies to determine the degree of risk involved in investment. Recommends risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepares investment memoranda, synthesizing the business and impact case and the potential risks and mitigants of a project and presents to OFN senior leadership and internal and external investment committees.
  • Strategizes and supports the negotiation of investment terms and development of legal documents.
  • Maintains ultimate accountability for investment performance by developing strong relationships with OFN’s borrowers.
  • Assists in the portfolio management of OFN’s investments.
  • Manages member engagement in their designated sector for Investment Services.
  • Leads member and borrower site visits when needed.
  • Assists the Investment Operations team to complete loan closings, documentation, and fund disbursements as requested.
  • Represents OFN at industry conferences, panels, and webinars.
  • Supports the SVP, Head of Investment Originations in structuring new and innovative investment products and funds that drive more capital to the community development field.
  • Works closely with the Credit Risk & Portfolio Management group to keep abreast of investee performance and developments for new investments.
  • Develops relationships across OFN, working closely with OFN’s Development Services and Membership teams, to support OFN’s mission and members.
  • Actively engages in loan monitoring, restructurings, modifications, and watchlist loans in coordination with OFN’s Credit Risk & Portfolio Management group.
  • Ensures the successful transition of approved investments from underwriting to closing and active portfolio management.
  • Supports the execution of OFN’s Innovation Initiative.
  • Partners across OFN and collaborates with other teams to support OFN’s mission.
  • Leads Investment Originations strategies and business development for designated sector(s).
  • Trains and mentors Investment Originations and Credit Risk & Portfolio Management, staff.
  • Has management responsibilities for Investment Originations Associates and Senior Associates.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration within the Investment Services team.
