About The Position

The Vice President - Safety and Security is responsible for all security functions related to the Dallas Mavericks, including leadership and management of the Mavericks security strategies in the areas of Security Operations (i.e., Site Management, Event Security, Crisis Management, Facility Security Management/Liaison, Stakeholder/Law Enforcement Liaison, Intelligence Analysis & Risk Management, and Team and Business Travel Security) and Security Administration (i.e., Investigations, Education, and Internal Support). The Vice President - Safety and Security is also responsible for developing and implementing a strategic security program and managing the security of Mavericks personnel and physical assets, including all Dallas Mavericks affiliates (i.e., Texas Legends G League team), and associated properties. The ideal candidate for the Vice President - Safety and Security role within the Dallas Mavericks will provide oversight and support of the organization's security strategy, including physical, personal, cyber, and information security. The Vice President will lead the development of security policies and procedures and manage security teams that perform or assist in the execution of physical security, cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance. This role will engage executive leadership to align security initiatives with business objectives, direct and execute Dallas Mavericks security related training initiatives, monitor and respond to emerging security threats and incidents, and oversee security audits, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives.

  • Ability to lead and manage investigative efforts related to incidents involving the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of, or ability to acquire security-related certifications such as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP).
  • Experience with professional sports teams is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads operational risk management activities to enhance the value of the Dallas Mavericks and its associated brand.
  • Oversees and/or liaisons with a network of directors and vendors who safeguard the Dallas Mavericks’ assets, intellectual property, and who provide for the physical safety of employees and visitors. This includes coordination third-party arena security, administrative office security, and the management of Mavericks contracted security.
  • Identifies protection goals, security objectives and metrics consistent with the Dallas Mavericks’ strategic plan.
  • Develops and implements security policy, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure enhancement of, and ongoing maintenance of, Dallas Mavericks security efforts.
  • Oversees physical protection responsibilities, including asset protection, access control systems, and video surveillance.
  • Fosters a culture of security awareness by conducting training sessions and communicating with Mavericks personnel. Additionally, manages staff fire/life/safety training.
  • Liaisons with other Mavericks entities to provide information technology security, workplace violence prevention, and employee education and awareness (to include the development of drills, exercises, and penetration/“red team” tests).
  • Engages with other agency executives to prioritize security initiatives and spending based on appropriate risk management and/or financial methodology.
  • Ensures development and maintenance of relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement and other related government agencies.
  • Supports incident response planning and emergency notification platforms as well as the investigation of security breaches and assists with matters associated with such breaches, as required.
  • Manages any Dallas Mavericks contractual security services.
  • Engages and manages work with outside consultants as appropriate for independent security audits, program enhancements, training, and other related assistance.
  • Oversees Team Travel Security, and personal and executive protection security efforts.
  • Directs Crisis Management response efforts.
  • Leads the development and management of corporate and criminal intelligence information.
  • Liaisons with Dallas Mavericks entities to manage security for staff termination and threat mitigation efforts.
  • Effectively liaisons with NBA security personnel to ensure compliance with applicable NBA rules and regulations.
  • Provides oversight of the security of Dallas Mavericks players and Dallas Mavericks player investigations.
