About The Position

Multi Asset Solutions (MAS) is a multi-asset class investing group within Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) at Goldman Sachs. MAS designs and develops comprehensive investment management solutions customized to meet client investment objectives, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques for multi-asset portfolio design and implementation, backed by proprietary research and analytics. Since 1995, MAS has invested or advised on multi-asset class mandates for a diverse range of global clients, including corporations, sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, family offices, RIAs, and other wealth advisors. This role is for a Vice President to serve as a senior Portfolio Manager (PM) on the global Third-Party Wealth and Strategic Partnerships Portfolio Management (TPW/PP PM) team within MAS. This team is responsible for the day-to-day management and construction of multi-asset class funds, retail models, dynamic institutional mandates, and investment strategies. It is a hands-on portfolio management position focused on investment decision-making, performance generation, and managing portfolio activities in alignment with MAS's investment philosophy, client expectations, and regulatory constraints. The role requires strong analytical and detail-oriented skills, with an emphasis on the ability to scalably manage and evaluate investment exposures across numerous portfolios, asset classes, and investment strategies.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of investment management experience, with a successful track record of employing the qualities and functional abilities referenced.
  • Exceptional investment acumen and knowledge of asset allocation principles, macro investing, and factor investing approaches.
  • Out-of-the-box thinker with intelligent, creative, problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills; experience working in global, cross-regional, cross-functional teams.
  • A self-starter with a consistently positive attitude and eagerness to thrive in a team environment.
  • Experience as a primary portfolio manager.
  • Accountable portfolio owner with risk management and control orientation.
  • Quantitative analysis and skillset; strong programming skills in at least one language such as Python.
  • Ability to communicate investment strategies and rationales to audiences of varying levels of sophistication.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg, Reuters, or other financial data systems is preferred.

  • Expertise in Japan total return portfolios and fixed income-oriented mandates is a plus.
  • Advanced degree or CFA designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ideate and execute strategic and tactical investment ideas with consistency and scale, in collaboration with Investment Leadership and the head of the channel, including determining optimal instruments to trade based on portfolio-specific, regulatory, and market-related considerations.
  • Manage multi-asset class portfolios in line with client guidelines, internal investment policies, and regulatory constraints, demonstrating leadership qualities and judgment to perform key portfolio management responsibilities within a few months of joining.
  • Collaborate with other TPW/PP PMs to streamline and drive day-to-day portfolio activities with high efficiency.
  • Drive investment idea generation as part of Asset Class Working Groups, with a special focus on credit and non-US fixed income.
  • Design income-oriented and derivatives-based investment strategies for client portfolio suitability, with a specific focus on the ability to effectively manage and implement such portfolios and strategies.
  • Structure trades to facilitate portfolio activity across asset classes and product types (equities, fixed income, currencies, alternatives) and instruments (futures, forwards, ETFs, options, swaps, funds).
  • Engage with clients on portfolio activities, positioning, and investment outlook on an as-needed basis.
  • Partner with the Central Trading Desk and external parties overseeing channel-wide trade execution.
  • Create and improve investment and portfolio construction frameworks across asset classes, enhancing expertise in investment alternatives and new strategies.
  • Lead and oversee projects aimed at improving trading and risk management processes, infrastructure, and investment analytics to enhance business scale and accelerate the team’s ability to meet growth objectives, execute portfolio management activities, and mitigate trading risks.
  • Serve as the investment-side oversight lead for complex portfolio events, including the launch and onboarding of new client mandates and portfolio restructurings, requiring coordination across multiple internal stakeholder teams throughout the firm.
