About The Position

The System Vice President for Philanthropy & Chief Development Officer (“CDO”) provides enterprise‑wide strategic leadership and direction for all philanthropy, development, donor relations, and associated Foundation operations across Luminis Health. This role is responsible for unifying and advancing Luminis Health’s philanthropic strategy into a cohesive, high‑performing enterprise that supports the mission, strategic priorities, and long‑term sustainability of the health system. The CDO integrates and aligns the efforts of the Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center (LHAAMC) Foundation and the Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center (LHDCMC) Foundation through shared vision, strategy, and infrastructure, while maintaining the distinct identities, community connections, and donor intent of each Foundation. This position ensures a clear and consistent donor experience, so that philanthropic support is transparently directed to the medical center and community a donor chooses, while strengthening system‑wide fundraising effectiveness, operational excellence, and community impact across Luminis Health.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree or related experience
  • Minimum of ten years of professional fundraising experience in a healthcare or academic setting
  • Minimum of five years of Leadership experience overseeing a Foundation
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), renewed every three years

Responsibilities

  • Participates, as a member of the LH Executive Team, in the development and ongoing review of the Health System’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plans.
  • Attends and contributes to system-level leadership meetings, including all system Foundation Board meetings, LH Executive Leadership meetings, brand/strategic/finance/capital meetings, and other applicable meetings.
  • Provides System leadership for all philanthropic activities, and related operations across LH.
  • Oversee enterprise-wide grants strategy, ensures effective identification, pursuit, and stewardship of institutional funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Designs and executes fundraising strategies and activities that support system initiatives, and local medical center initiatives.
  • Establishes and achieves annual fundraising goals across the system, including major gifts, campaigns, grants, events, and other philanthropic revenue streams, with accountability for performance and results.
  • Enhance LH’s image through events, personal contacts, strategic outreach, and engagement.
  • Maintains strong internal relationships with LH Executives, Boards, Medical Staff, operational leaders, and community leaders to ensure engagement, alignment, and visibility of philanthropic priorities.
  • Provides governance and operational support to the LHAAMC and LHDCMC Foundation Boards and coordinates related committees and activities.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees annual operating and capital budgets for all Foundation and philanthropy functions, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources, financial sustainability, and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Develops and implements systems for measuring community needs, donor sentiment, and perceptions of LH and its Foundation.
  • Serves as a visible ambassador for LH across our region, providing community outreach to sustain close working relationships with partners, donors, and allied organizations.
  • Monitor trends and innovations in philanthropy to inform strategy and adapt best practices through close alignment with peers and industry trade associations.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and financial standards in fundraising and donor stewardship.
  • Establish and oversee standardized policies, procedures, and performance metrics for all philanthropic activities.
  • Oversees the management of the Doordan Institute Conference Center.
  • Serves as an ex-officio member for LHAAMC and LHDCMC Foundation Boards.
  • Demonstrates and encourages collaboration and teamwork to achieve goals.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the system.
