About The Position

The Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer (CAO) provides strategic and collaborative leadership for Robeson Community College’s academic programs and instructional services, promoting excellence in teaching, learning, and student achievement. Reporting directly to the President, the CAO oversees the development and advancement of innovative curriculum offerings, including university transfer and health sciences programs, while fostering collaboration with workforce development and career and technical education initiatives to support workforce and community needs. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President for Instruction works closely with campus leaders to strengthen educational pathways, enhance institutional effectiveness, and support student success. The CAO directly supervises academic deans, the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Planning and Research, and other Academic Affairs personnel. This is an on-site leadership position. The successful candidate is expected to actively engage in campus and community activities, including those occurring during evenings and weekends. The College reserves the right to modify duties and responsibilities as needed to meet institutional priorities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in education or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in academic administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college and to advancing student success and equity.
  • Proven leadership in academic administration, including program development, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Strong collaborative and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders across education, industry, and the community.
  • Experience integrating technology and supporting innovation in teaching and learning, including distance education.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, foster teamwork, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience with accreditation processes, compliance, and new program development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the planning, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic programs in support of a student-centered learning environment.
  • Oversee institutional effectiveness efforts within Academic Affairs, including outcomes assessment, program evaluation, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Cultivate and sustain partnerships with K-12 systems, higher education institutions, business and industry, and government agencies to enhance educational access, transfer pathways, and workforce readiness.
  • Lead the development, negotiation, and maintenance of articulation agreements to expand student opportunities and ensure seamless transfer.
  • Contribute to and implement the College’s strategic plan, with particular emphasis on enrollment management, retention, completion, academic innovation, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including Title V, Title VII, Title IX, and accreditation standards.
  • Serve as the College’s accreditation liaison for Academic Affairs, overseeing accreditation processes and ensuring institutional and programmatic compliance.
  • Direct the development and management of the Academic Affairs budget, including long-range planning and identification of capital needs to support instructional programs.
  • Pursue external funding opportunities, including grants, to support academic initiatives and innovation.
  • Interpret and implement state and institutional policies related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Provide leadership in the recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of faculty and academic staff in alignment with institutional policies and priorities.
  • Represent the College at local, state, and national levels through professional engagement, community involvement, and participation in governance activities, including Board of Trustees meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the President, including participation in evening and weekend events and travel as required.
