About The Position

The Vice President of Human Resources, Corporate Functions provides strategic senior leadership and direction for Stanley Black & Decker’s corporate functions and consults with the senior leadership team on a broad array of issues across Finance, IT, Legal, Strategy and other enterprise-wide support areas. The VP HR, Corporate Functions supports the mission and strategic plan of the company, ensures compliance with all applicable human resources laws, regulations, and policies, establishes best practices, and creates a human resources organization that provides excellent consultative, strategic, and operational services. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer of the company, the Vice President of HR, Corporate Functions will lead a team of HR professionals who interface directly with our employees and business leaders to meet the business's current and future operational needs. This person will leverage our global HR operating model to accomplish key business objectives, implement culture change, develop the business model and ensure the business has the resource capability and leadership bench strength to achieve our growth strategies. This position will be a part of Stanley Black & Decker’s HR Leadership Team (HRLT) and can be based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Towson, Maryland or New Britain, Connecticut.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success leading a company through significant transformation in a global public company.
  • Exceptional leadership skills in organizational strategy, effective program and process execution, identifying and developing organizational capability, and change management.
  • 15+ years of experience with progressive responsibility in human resources roles, ideally in a combination of plant, commercial, and corporate environments for a global public company.
  • Deep understanding of business needs with global scope is essential; the successful candidate must be able to gain confidence from the business leadership team and HR partners around the globe.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, influencing and communication skills in a matrixed environment are a must.
  • Significant experience in strategy, organizational capability, change management, business partnering and labor relations.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation and relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders and proven track record of enterprise-wide impact.
  • Strong academic background supported by a bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, I/O Psychology, Labor Relations or related field required.
  • Proven ability to gain confidence from the business leadership team and HR partners.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with executive leadership.
  • Understanding of global labor relations and experience with both union and non-union sites around the world.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business, financial and people related data and determine appropriate actions.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • An MBA or master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with European Works councils is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a strategic partner to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, General Counsel, Chief Information Officer and their global leadership teams to align people strategies with business objectives across global markets.
  • Provide HR leadership and guidance for corporate functions, establishing overall goals, objectives, and team vision while providing training and development opportunities for direct reports supporting their continuous growth and learning.
  • Drive global effectiveness and lead people change management initiatives, ensuring stakeholder engagement and connectivity within a highly matrixed environment.
  • Ensure alignment with HR partners across the business units, corporate functions and Centers of Excellence (COEs) with cross-functional activities and priorities.
  • Drive adoption of new global HR operating model and standardized processes within Corporate HR.
  • Partner with COEs to develop and implement “best in class” human resources processes in assessment, selection, leadership and employee development, employee engagement, labor relations, reward and recognition, communication and organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute an HR plan aligned with business objectives, to include organizational design, succession planning, talent management, goal alignment, and internal communications.
  • Develop critical metrics to measure the performance/health of the business, ensuring functional success, as well as ensuring achievement of business commitments to customers.
  • Champion Stanley Black & Decker’s evolving business strategy and culture change transformation.
  • Lead transformation efforts required to build organizational capability to achieve business results.
