About The Position

Qualstar Credit Union is seeking a VP of Finance/Controller to join their executive leadership team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the CFO, drive financial excellence, and strengthen infrastructure in a service-focused, financially sound organization. The position combines technical expertise with strategic vision, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial sustainability. The VP of Finance/Controller will oversee the Accounting department's day-to-day operations and provide strategic financial leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Accounting department while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial statements, regulatory reports, tax filings, and internal financial reporting.
  • Lead the month-end close process, general ledger reconciliations, and continuous improvement of accounting policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor organizational liquidity and manage the investment portfolio in accordance with Board-approved policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, asset/liability management (ALM) reporting, and long-term financial strategies that support organizational objectives.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and financial procedures that safeguard organizational assets and ensure regulatory compliance. Partner with external auditors, internal auditors, and regulatory agencies during audits and examinations.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to identify financial opportunities, evaluate organizational risks, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and financial regulations, translating them into effective policies, procedures, and business practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, strengthen financial processes, and support sustainable organizational growth.
  • Present financial results, analysis, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and regulatory agencies.
