About The Position

Treasury Prime is hiring a Vice President of Engineering to lead software engineering, DevOps, and data as a member of the executive team reporting to the CEO. The VP will own how the company builds, ships, and operates the platform used by banks and fintechs. This is primarily a leadership role that requires technical depth in architecture and tradeoffs, alongside the ability to build a strong team, set clear direction, and keep engineering connected to customers and the wider business. The role calls for leading through influence, earning cross-functional trust, and guiding the team through changing priorities and practices. The VP will work with the CEO and VP of Product to shape the company’s AI direction and translate it into deliverable work. During the first year, the role will focus on building trust with engineering, supporting and developing the engineering manager, establishing useful operating rhythms and standards, strengthening DevOps and on-call practices, and partnering with Automation & Operations on long-term ownership of security, IT, and DevOps. The VP will also build trusted relationships with bank, fintech, and product partners and prepare the team, technology, and business to scale. Treasury Prime describes itself as the operating layer for modern banking, connecting more than 20 banks with fintechs through modern APIs. It is a small, senior, fully remote team working with Clojure, React, Postgres, AWS, and an expanding set of AI agents. The company is backed by Y Combinator, QED Investors, Nyca Partners, Deciens Capital, SaaStr Fund, Susa Ventures, and others. Treasury Prime hires in the United States and Canada only.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading engineering organizations through managers.
  • Head of Engineering experience (VP, Head of, or similar) with a seat on an executive or senior leadership team.
  • Strong technical foundation in backend systems, APIs, and distributed architecture.
  • Experience leading DevOps or infrastructure and data teams; the company runs on AWS.
  • Track record of building teams that people want to join and stay on, and leading them through ongoing change and innovation.
  • Hands-on experience leading a team through AI adoption, with a clear understanding of where AI is useful and how to change team practices accordingly.
  • Ability to engage with a founder-CEO’s vision, debate it, push back with evidence, and translate it into work a team can deliver.
  • Strong cross-functional partnerships, especially with sales and customer success, and a record of bringing engineers close to customers and using customer evidence to influence what the team builds.
  • Experience in a regulated or security-sensitive industry such as fintech, payments, or banking.
  • Comfort working in a small, fast-moving company where leaders are both strategic and hands-on.

Nice To Haves

  • Banking as a Service, core banking, payments, or ledger experience.
  • Clojure or another functional programming language.
  • Experience leading engineering at a B2B company with fewer than 100 people through the challenges of scaling.
  • Experience building or running a security program.
  • Experience shipping LLM-based or agentic products.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and grow engineers, DevOps, data, and the engineering manager; foster ownership and pride in craft, provide direct and caring feedback, and ensure critical knowledge and on-call responsibilities are not concentrated in one person.
  • Connect engineering strategy to company goals and customer outcomes; evolve planning, prioritization, and delivery practices while improving quality and predictability without unnecessary process.
  • Ensure the team understands customer problems through call reviews, implementation work, and engagement with colleagues who work directly with customers.
  • Partner with Revenue, Client Services, and Implementations to help land and support customers, make capacity tradeoffs, and keep the team focused on solving real customer problems rather than fulfilling every request.
  • Identify ways AI can take on meaningful work in complex, regulated financial workflows; measure results customers and bank partners can trust; choose models and tools based on cost and performance; and revisit, rebuild, or retire solutions as technology changes.
  • Use AI in their own work and lead by example to make AI a natural part of how the team builds.
  • Contribute to company strategy as an executive team member and partner with the VP of Product, challenging direction with data and leading the team once decisions are made.
  • Build trusted partnerships with Revenue, Client Services, Implementations, Compliance, and Operations, and explain technical tradeoffs in clear business terms.
  • Guide architecture, own reliability and incident response, and lead engineering’s contributions to SOC 2, PCI, and bank partner security reviews.
  • Ensure AI systems receive security reviews appropriate to their responsibilities.
  • Establish sustainable operating rhythms and standards, strengthen DevOps and on-call depth, and partner with Automation & Operations on long-term ownership of security, IT, and DevOps.
