About The Position

Treasury Prime is hiring a Vice President of Engineering to lead software engineering, DevOps, and data and serve on the executive team, reporting to the CEO. The role owns how the company builds, ships, and operates the platform used by banks and fintechs. It is primarily a leadership position, requiring technical depth in architecture and tradeoffs alongside responsibility for building a strong team, setting direction, and keeping engineering connected to customers and business priorities. The VP of Engineering will shape the company's AI direction with the CEO and VP of Product, evaluate opportunities to use AI in complex, regulated financial workflows, and guide the team in delivering dependable customer outcomes. The role also establishes operating rhythms and standards, develops engineering leadership, deepens DevOps and on-call capability, and partners on long-term ownership of security, IT, and DevOps. As an executive team member, this leader contributes to company strategy and works closely with Product, Revenue, Client Services, Implementations, Compliance, and Operations. They guide architecture, reliability, incident response, and engineering's contributions to SOC 2, PCI, and bank partner security reviews. Treasury Prime is a small, senior, fully remote team using Clojure, React, Postgres, AWS, and AI agents.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including 3+ years leading engineering organizations through managers.
  • Experience as a Head of Engineering, VP of Engineering, or in a similar role, with a seat on an executive or senior leadership team.
  • Strong technical foundation in backend systems, APIs, and distributed architecture.
  • Experience leading DevOps or infrastructure and data teams; the company runs on AWS.
  • Track record of building teams people want to join and stay on, and leading teams through change and innovation.
  • Hands-on experience leading a team through AI adoption, with a clear understanding of where AI helps, where it does not, and how to change team practices accordingly.
  • Ability to engage with a founder-CEO's vision, debate and push back with evidence, and translate direction into work a team can build.
  • Strong cross-functional partnerships, especially with sales and customer success, and experience bringing engineers close to customers and using customer evidence to influence what the team builds.
  • Experience in a regulated or security-sensitive industry such as fintech, payments, or banking.
  • Comfort working in a small, fast-moving company where leaders are both strategic and hands-on.

Nice To Haves

  • Banking as a Service, core banking, payments, or ledger experience.
  • Clojure or another functional programming language.
  • Experience leading engineering at a B2B company under 100 people through the challenges of scaling.
  • Experience building or running a security program.
  • Experience shipping LLM-based or agentic products.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and grow engineers, DevOps, data, and the engineering manager; build a culture of ownership and craft, provide direct and caring feedback, and ensure critical knowledge and on-call responsibilities are not concentrated in one person.
  • Connect engineering strategy to company goals and customer outcomes; evolve planning, prioritization, and delivery while improving quality and predictability without unnecessary process.
  • Ensure engineers understand customer problems through call reviews, implementation work, and collaboration with customer-facing teams; support Revenue, Client Services, and Implementations while making clear capacity tradeoffs and focusing on solving real customer problems.
  • Develop and guide the company's AI direction with the CEO and VP of Product; identify work AI can take on in complex, regulated workflows, measure outcomes trusted by customers and partner banks, evaluate models and tools based on cost and performance, and revisit or retire solutions as technology changes.
  • Lead by example in using AI in engineering work and help make it a natural part of how the team builds.
  • Contribute to company strategy as an executive team member and partner with the VP of Product, challenging direction with data and then leading the team in committed execution.
  • Build trusted partnerships with Revenue, Client Services, Implementations, Compliance, and Operations; communicate technical tradeoffs in business terms.
  • Guide architecture and own platform reliability and incident response.
  • Own engineering's role in SOC 2, PCI, and bank partner security reviews, and ensure AI systems receive security review appropriate to their responsibilities.
  • Earn the engineering team's trust, develop the engineering manager, establish operating rhythms and standards, and build sustainable depth in DevOps and on-call.
  • Partner with the Automation & Operations team on a long-term ownership model for security, IT, and DevOps.
  • Become a trusted voice with bank, fintech, and product partners, and prepare the team, technology, and business to scale.
