About The Position

The Samaritan Inn is a comprehensive housing stability program that supports individuals in realizing dignity and gaining independence. As a key member of the Development Team, the VP of Development will be a consistent, focused leader responsible for managing their team and overseeing the organization's fundraising efforts with foundations, giving circles, and grants. This position requires a visionary leader who can cultivate strong relationships with donors, grant-making bodies, and stakeholders, while also leading a high-performing team of grant-writing professionals. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in fundraising strategy, grant writing, and donor cultivation, combined with strong management skills to guide and inspire a diverse team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit development
  • At least 3 years in leadership in the DFW area
  • Proven track record of successfully leading fundraising campaigns and securing major grants
  • Experience in grant writing, grant management, and cultivating long-term relationships with grant-making bodies
  • Experience managing and mentoring teams, with a demonstrated ability to lead diverse groups of individuals to achieve shared goals
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, prioritize actions, and make data-driven decisions
  • Expertise in fundraising software, Donor Perfect, and/or Salesforce CRM system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, giving circles, trends, and regulatory requirements
  • High level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with confidential information
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture while managing the day-to-day fundraising operations
  • Collaborative, works effectively with teams across various departments, including programs and finance
  • Results-oriented, focused on meeting and exceeding fundraising targets with a high level of accountability
  • Motivates and engages team members to reach their fullest potential and contribute to the organization's mission

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and provide guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive grant team culture that encourages creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Set clear goals and performance metrics for each team member, ensuring alignment with organizational fundraising objectives and the strategic plan
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to enhance individual and team performance
  • Create and execute giving circle/s that align with the wealth management CRM tool, working closely with the Development Manager
  • Build and maintain relationships with high-net-worth donors, foundations, and corporate partners, working to increase financial support for the organization’s mission
  • Identify new fundraising opportunities and expand the donor base through targeted outreach based upon wealth management screening and generations identified
  • Ensure the fundraising plan integrates with the organization’s overall strategic goals and mission
  • Oversee the grant development process, including identifying potential funding sources, writing compelling proposals, and managing relationships with grantors
  • Monitor and report on grant outcomes to ensure compliance with funder requirements and maximize future funding opportunities
  • Collaborate with the programs team to understand funding needs and align grant proposals with program objectives
  • Work with the business office and Chief Development Officer to set annual fundraising budgets and ensure fundraising initiatives are executed within budget constraints
  • Monitor revenue and expenses associated with fundraising efforts, providing regular reports to the Chief Development Officer
  • Use data and analytics from CRM to assess the effectiveness of fundraising activities and adjust strategies as needed
