About The Position

The Vice President Institutional Asset Management is responsible for onboarding, servicing, retaining, and expanding institutional client relationships sourced through internal referral channels. This role leads the client implementation process, coordinates investment policy statement development, delivers portfolio and performance reviews, and partners with portfolio managers and internal stakeholders to provide a seamless and highly responsive client experience. The position also supports institutional business development by participating in prospect meetings, completing requests for proposal, developing client-facing materials, and building strong referral partnerships across the organization. As the platform grows, the role will help expand its reach to third-party platforms, consultants, and other institutional prospects. This role has the option to be based out of our San Francisco, NYC, or Boston office.

Requirements

  • Advanced level knowledge of the investment industry and portfolio management.
  • Detailed knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, security types.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collegial team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to help coach, develop, and retain team members.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of investment industry experience.
  • Institutional client and relationship management experience.
  • Experience with investment policy statements (IPS).
  • Knowledge of third-party investment manager databases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Series 7, 63, 65 (or 66 in lieu of 63 and 65).

Responsibilities

  • Lead onboarding and implementation of new institutional client relationships.
  • Coordinate account opening, custody, documentation, investment policy statements (IPS) development, and funding activities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure a seamless client experience.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Venture Banking, Public Finance, Fixed Income, and other Stifel business units to ensure effective referral management and exceptional client service.
  • Create, review, and revise investment policy statements.
  • Collaborate with portfolio manager on matters related to individual client accounts.
  • Create and deliver performance reports.
  • Attend prospect meetings (in-person and virtually) to articulate Stifel and SCM’s value add and available services.
  • Attend client meetings (in-person and virtually) to provide portfolio and performance reviews, discussions relating to an IPS and/or investment objectives, and utilize Stifel materials to provide market and macroeconomic summaries.
  • Complete Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for new business.
  • Build out and maintain a database of RFP responses.
  • Develop and maintain client facing materials articulating firm and SCM capabilities and expertise.
  • As the platform expands, expand client base beyond Stifel to include BD, RIA, TAMP and other third-party platforms, consultants, and institutional prospects.
