About The Position

The Vice President, Infrastructure & Operations (VP I&O) leads the credit union’s technology infrastructure, end-user computing, and IT operations functions to deliver secure, resilient, and reliable services for members and employees. This role is accountable for day-to-day operational excellence across data center and cloud platforms, networks, systems administration, identity and access management, endpoint services, and IT service management (ITIL) practices. The VP I&O ensures technology operations meet regulatory expectations and business requirements through strong governance, risk management, vendor oversight, budgeting, and continuous improvement. This position partners closely with Information Security, Application/Business Systems, and business leaders to enable growth, improve member experience, and maintain high availability and recoverability of critical services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience with significant responsibility in infrastructure and IT operations (e.g., network/systems, cloud operations, end-user services, data center operations).
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including building teams, managing performance, and leading through change.
  • Demonstrated experience with ITIL-based service management, including incident/problem/change management, metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of resiliency practices (high availability, backup, disaster recovery), operational monitoring, capacity planning, and service reliability.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments with strong governance, audit readiness, risk management, and third-party/vendor management practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives and business stakeholders; capable of translating technical concepts into business impact, risk, and cost.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a credit union, community bank, or similarly regulated financial institution (e.g., familiarity with NCUA/FFIEC expectations, vendor due diligence, and audit support).
  • Hands-on leadership experience with hybrid infrastructure (on-prem + cloud), including Microsoft ecosystem (e.g., Windows Server, Active Directory/Azure AD/Entra ID, Microsoft 365) and modern endpoint management.
  • Experience implementing and maturing observability and automation (monitoring/alerting, configuration management, infrastructure-as-code, scripting) to improve reliability and reduce operational toil.
  • Industry certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP/CISM, CCNP, Microsoft, AWS, or Azure certifications.
  • Experience leading major infrastructure initiatives (data center modernization, cloud migration, network refresh, telephony/UC, SD-WAN, VDI) with strong change management and stakeholder alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and operational leadership for all infrastructure and IT operations functions, including on-prem and cloud platforms, network services, systems administration, identity and access management, endpoint computing, and collaboration tooling.
  • Establish multi-year roadmaps aligned to business strategy; define operating models, service ownership, and performance expectations; and ensure consistent delivery of secure, reliable technology services.
  • Own and mature ITIL-based service management practices (incident, problem, change, request, asset/configuration) to ensure stable operations and high service availability.
  • Define and monitor service-level objectives, operational metrics, and dashboards; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions; and drive continuous improvement to reduce outages, improve mean time to restore, and enhance user/member experience.
  • Ensure the recoverability and resiliency of critical services through robust backup, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Maintain and regularly test disaster recovery and business continuity plans; coordinate cross-functional exercises and remediation; ensure RTO/RPO alignment with business requirements; and report readiness, risks, and improvements to executive leadership and governance bodies.
  • Establish and enforce infrastructure standards, configuration baselines, and lifecycle management practices across servers, network devices, endpoints, and cloud services.
  • Partner with Information Security to prioritize and remediate vulnerabilities; ensure patching and configuration compliance; manage technology refresh cycles; and reduce operational risk through disciplined governance and documentation.
  • Develop and manage the infrastructure and operations budget, including personnel, hardware/software, cloud consumption, and managed services.
  • Forecast and track spend; identify cost-optimization opportunities (capacity planning, licensing, vendor consolidation); and ensure investments deliver measurable value while maintaining required performance, security, and resiliency.
  • Lead third-party relationships supporting infrastructure and operations, including telecommunications, cloud providers, MSPs, hardware/software vendors, and support partners.
  • Negotiate contracts and SLAs, manage performance and escalations, ensure vendor risk and due diligence requirements are met, and drive accountability for delivery, security, and compliance outcomes.
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing infrastructure and operations teams.
  • Set clear goals, coach and mentor leaders and individual contributors, and ensure appropriate staffing and on-call/coverage models.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, documentation, and continuous improvement; support training and succession planning; and lead change management efforts to drive adoption of new technologies and processes.
