About The Position

The Vice President, Global Product Partnerships sits on the Medicine Security Leadership Team and serves as the strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing Americares global product access and sourcing strategy. This role will help lead the evolution of Medicine Security from a model built predominantly on ad-hoc Gift-in-Kind (GIK) donations toward one that is more diversified, resilient, and predictable. As the organization's primary external voice on product supply, this position is responsible for building and stewarding relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical supply companies, distributors, wholesalers, foundations, and other industry partners to secure essential medicines and health commodities for partners around the world, including the United States. The VP oversees Americares significant GIK portfolio, its Patient Assistance Programs, and a future state sourcing and procurement function, setting the forward strategy to expand and diversify our global donor and supplier network while opening new channels for product access. This work strengthens supply chain resilience, sharpens alignment with documented patient needs, and expands Americares strategic relevance in a rapidly changing global health ecosystem. This is a growth role as much as a stewardship role. Success depends on a strong global health and commercial orientation: knowing the industry deeply, targeting deliberately, articulating a compelling value proposition, and reporting results in a way that earns the next commitment. Above all, the VP leads the shift in how Americares sources medicine and medical supplies, evolving from “what’s available” to “what’s essential.”

Requirements

  • Deep familiarity with the inner workings of pharmaceutical companies, including how product donation, market access, and philanthropic decisions are made and managed across commercial, medical, supply chain, legal, and foundation functions.
  • Deep understanding of market dynamics, go-to-market strategy, and the realities of introducing products in resource-limited and underserved settings.
  • Ability to build forward visibility across multiple supply channels, translating donor pipelines, committed volumes, and sourcing options into planning information the organization can rely on.
  • Strong grounding in global public health, with extensive relationships across international and local NGOs, ministries, foundations, and multilaterals.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and long-term planning ability, paired with a willingness to personally build functions, systems, and materials that do not yet exist.
  • Breadth across therapeutic areas, with demonstrated agility in quickly mastering new product domains.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage credibly with senior industry executives, internal stakeholders, and frontline partners alike.
  • Strong external positioning instincts, with the ability to sharpen a value proposition by audience and differentiate an organization among peers.
  • Comfort in quantitative analysis and utilizing data to inform priorities and strategy.
  • Collaborative leadership style, fostering transparency, coordination, and alignment across matrixed teams and departments.
  • Experience building and leading distributed teams that include other people managers.
  • Sound regulatory and compliance judgement, particularly in highly regulated environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Skilled negotiator across complex partnership agreements, donation arrangements, and /or sourcing contracts, balancing terms with risk, quality, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated success growing and diversifying a portfolio of external relationships, with disciplined segmentation and targeting tactics.
  • Familiarity with Patient Assistance Programs and the US medication access landscape.
  • Familiarity with sourcing, procurement, and supplier qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year Global Product Partnerships strategy aligned with the Medicine Security and organizational strategic plan, with clear targets for growth, diversification, and new channel development.
  • In partnership with the Medicine Security Leadership Team, support the transition from a primarily donation-driven model toward a diversified product access model spanning ad-hoc and strategic GIK donations, strategic procurement models, market access partnerships, blended sourcing solutions, regional and local supplier partnerships, and emerging social entrepreneurship models.
  • Serve as a member of the Medicine Security Leadership team, co-developing forward Division strategy, defining future state operating models and performance metrics, and leading division-wide work around team, culture and performance.
  • Provide executive oversight of the incoming product/supply portfolio, ensuring donation pipelines align with documented health needs and programmatic priorities rather than available supply alone.
  • Lead growth from the existing product donor base by deepening penetration across donor portfolios, maximizing existing donations, and converting opportunistic giving into planned, predictable commitment and/or more strategic relationships.
  • Build a qualified pipeline of new product donors that diversifies the network over the long term, spanning US and international manufacturers, generic and biosimilar producers, medical device and diagnostics companies, wholesalers, and distributors.
  • Build and steward senior-level relationships across the industry - pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers, device and diagnostics companies, distributors and wholesalers, procurement agencies, industry associations, and corporate foundations.
  • In close partnership with Development, build integrated donor strategies that unlock both product and investment. Establish joint account planning, aligned engagement, and a shared view of each relationship so that product and financial asks reinforce rather than compete with one another.
  • In partnership with Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management, negotiate complex partnership agreements, donation arrangements, sourcing contracts, and collaboration agreements.
  • Bring a strong marketing orientation to how Americares presents itself to industry, sharpening the value proposition and tailoring it by donor segment, and partnering with MarComms and Medicine Security Programs to build a compelling, evidence-based results narrative that translates portfolio data, patient reach, and partner outcomes into materials that differentiate Americares from peer organizations.
  • Maintain deep and current knowledge of the industry and access-to-medicine ecosystem- product pipelines, patent expiries and biosimilar entry, divestments and portfolio rationalization, therapeutic area shifts, and evolving corporate access and social impact strategies - and translate that intelligence into targeted approaches.
  • Position Americares as the go-to partner for innovative medicine access solutions through active presence at industry forums, conferences, and access coalitions.
  • Provide executive oversight of Americares' Patient Assistance Programs, ensuring service delivery consistently meets the standards expected by pharmaceutical clients operating in a highly regulated US environment, with rigorous compliance, quality, and data integrity in close partnership with Legal, Compliance, and Finance.
  • Retain and grow the existing client base and develop the pipeline and commercial approach for new programs, including evolving models such as bulk replacement.
  • In partnership with other functions within Medicine Security, improve visibility and forecasting of product availability, donor pipelines, and market opportunities, giving the organization earlier and better information on which to plan.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies in partnership with Medicine Security and other functions that complement and extend traditional GIK approaches, identifying opportunities for direct procurement, pooled purchasing, strategic sourcing, and emergency product access.
  • Expand networks of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and procurement partners across global and regional markets, with close attention to quality assurance and regulatory acceptability in destination markets.
  • Assess supplier risk, market conditions, and sourcing alternatives to strengthen supply chain resilience, and support development of sourcing ecosystems capable of responding to humanitarian crises and health system disruption.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Global Product Partnerships team across corporate product donations, Patient Assistance Programs, and sourcing, fostering a culture of strategic partnership development, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop staff, building capability in external engagement and communications, strategic relationship management, negotiation, and market analysis, and commercial thinking. Establish team goals, performance measures, and professional development plans.
  • Lead a distributed and diverse team with transparency and care, maintaining strong engagement, wellbeing, and shared purpose.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within Medicine Security and other departments to co-lead a unified Americares strategy.
