About The Position

This is a multi-functional role that combines both accounting and FP&A responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be genuinely curious about financial details, ensure the accuracy of numbers at the transaction level, and understand the overall shape of the business. This role requires both controller skills to ensure past financial accuracy and FP&A skills to focus on future business direction. The position involves partnering with the CFO, owning day-to-day financial operations (close, reporting, controls, payroll, treasury), and serving as a core strategic partner for budgeting, forecasting, and unit economics. This is a startup environment where infrastructure and processes are still being developed, offering an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in such conditions.

Requirements

10+ years in finance, spanning both controller and FP&A work.
Startup experience, including building processes from scratch in a fast-moving company.
Strong command of SaaS metrics, with the ability to build and explain them from scratch.
Hands-on operator comfortable doing the work themselves.
Experience working with and managing an external bookkeeping firm.
Financial modeling fluency, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario planning.
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar.
High-level proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets.
Clear communicator capable of translating complex financial information for non-finance audiences.

Nice To Haves

CPA or MBA
Prior experience as a Controller
Familiarity with AI credits, usage-based billing, or consumption-based revenue models
Experience supporting a finance function through a corporate transaction or integration
Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition in a SaaS context
Prior experience as a solo or near-solo finance leader at a company under 50 people

Responsibilities

Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes end-to-end with accuracy and efficiency.
Oversee outsourced bookkeeping and manage one internal accounting FTE, setting standards and reviewing work.
Prepare clear, useful, and timely management reporting packages for leadership and the board.
Own accounting policies, internal controls, and compliance to ensure the integrity of the financial record.
Process payroll accurately and on schedule in partnership with HR.
Manage treasury and cash, including positioning, bank relationships, and liquidity forecasting.
Lead the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning processes, ensuring they are useful and not just compliance exercises.
Develop financial models for scenario planning, headcount, and revenue projections.
Partner with departments on their budgets, tracking spend, surfacing insights, and providing necessary information for decision-making.
Prepare board and investor materials, including variance analysis, KPI dashboards, and narratives.
Own and explain SaaS financial metrics such as ARR, NRR, churn, CAC, LTV, and payback period, building the models from scratch.
Manage accounting for AI credits and consumption-based revenue, including cost allocation and margin analysis.
Ensure revenue recognition in line with ASC 606.
Track and help the business understand unit economics as the company scales.
Own the finance tech stack, including accounting software, billing, and reporting tools, improving existing systems and replacing ineffective ones.
Identify and fix process inefficiencies.
Provide support for audits, tax, and regulatory requirements.
Manage sales tax compliance, including nexus monitoring and filings across jurisdictions.
