About The Position

This is a multi-functional finance role that combines both accounting and FP&A responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be curious about financial details, ensure the accuracy of numbers at the transaction level, and understand the overall shape of the business. This role requires controller skills to ensure past accuracy and FP&A skills to focus on future business direction, with a direct partnership with the CFO. The position involves owning day-to-day financial operations, including close, reporting, controls, payroll, and treasury, as well as being a strategic partner for budgeting, forecasting, and unit economics. This is a startup environment where infrastructure and processes are still being developed, offering an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in such conditions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in finance, with experience spanning both controller and FP&A roles.
  • Startup experience, including building processes from scratch in a fast-moving company.
  • Strong command of SaaS metrics; ability to build and explain them from scratch.
  • Hands-on operator comfortable doing the work directly.
  • Experience working with and managing outsourced accounting firms.
  • Financial modeling fluency, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks or NetSuite.
  • High-level proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Clear communicator capable of translating complex financial information for non-finance audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes end-to-end with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee outsourced bookkeeping, setting standards, reviewing work, and ensuring seamless operations with one internal accounting FTE and an external firm.
  • Prepare management reporting packages for leadership and the board, ensuring clarity, usefulness, and timeliness.
  • Own accounting policies, internal controls, and compliance to ensure the integrity of the financial record.
  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule in partnership with HR.
  • Manage treasury and cash operations, including positioning, bank relationships, and liquidity forecasting.
  • Lead the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning processes, making them useful strategic tools.
  • Develop financial models for scenario planning, headcount, and revenue projections that are easily understood.
  • Partner with departments on budget tracking, surfacing insights, and providing necessary financial information for decision-making.
  • Prepare board and investor materials, including variance analysis, KPI dashboards, and supporting narratives.
  • Own and explain key SaaS financial metrics such as ARR, NRR, churn, CAC, LTV, and payback period, building the models from scratch.
  • Manage accounting for AI credits and consumption-based revenue, including cost allocation and margin analysis.
  • Ensure revenue recognition in line with ASC 606.
  • Track and analyze unit economics as the company scales, helping the business understand their implications.
  • Own the finance tech stack, including accounting software, billing, and reporting tools, improving existing systems and replacing ineffective ones.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Provide support for audits, tax, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage sales tax compliance, including nexus monitoring and filings across various jurisdictions.
