Expedition Medicines is a privately held, early-stage biotechnology company pioneering the emerging field of Protein Editing. At Expedition Medicines we create small molecules that edit protein structure and function to unlock presently undruggable targets and a broad array of therapeutic modalities. The Role: Expedition Medicines is seeking a hands-on Vice President of Finance with deep experience in private biotech companies running both pre-clinical and clinical programs. The ideal candidate brings strong finance expertise, technical and operational accounting depth, proven leadership, and a demonstrated ability to build and deploy strategic finance processes at scale. This individual must be comfortable working independently in a resource-constrained environment while overseeing a lean finance and accounting function and also providing strategic financial guidance to the executive team. The Vice President of Finance will oversee all aspects of accounting, financial operations, and compliance while contributing meaningfully to corporate strategy and long-term planning. This is a key leadership role and is the primary steward of the company’s financial strategy, discipline, systems, and governance.

Requirements

15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including senior leadership roles
Proven track record in a private life sciences/biotech company through growth and successful inflection points
Strong understanding of GAAP and biotech-specific accounting issues, including R&D accruals, intercompany transactions, and collaboration accounting
Experience in leading financial reporting , budgeting and long-range planning processes
Experience and comfort as an individual contributor as well as leading small teams, including external vendors
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Nice To Haves

CPA or MBA strongly preferred
Experience supporting fundraising activities (venture capital, crossover, IPO readiness)
Understanding of and interest in utilizing AI and automation for finance
Familiarity with biopharma collaboration accounting and reporting as well as cost modeling for R&D programs

Responsibilities

Oversee and manage all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls; ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations, manage monthly, quarterly and annual close processes and tax and regulatory filings; initiate/lead financial statement audits
Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop and refine the company’s financial strategy and long-term operating plan; provide scenario modeling within budgets, forecasts, and long-range planning models, and deliver capital allocation recommendations; support fundraising, investor relations, and board-level financial reporting
Implement and maintain innovative and scalable accounting and financial systems, processes and tools; oversee cash flow management, including tracking of R&D expenses, collaboration budgets and operational spend, and lead implementation of accounting and finance systems independent from the Flagship ecosystem
Manage external vendors — auditors, accounting consultants, tax advisors, and payroll providers — holding them to scope, budget, and timeline
Deploy AI accelerators across finance operations to improve speed, accuracy, and analytical capacity
