About The Position

Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC is seeking a Vice President, External Product Specialist in New York, New York. This role involves establishing and managing relationships with external managers, focusing on new product development and coordinating external sales professionals. The position also entails sourcing and originating new alternative investment offerings to meet client demand and capitalize on market opportunities. Key responsibilities include structuring partnerships with external managers, managing legal negotiations with internal and external counsel, and serving as an alternative investment strategist. The specialist will provide insights on private market trends, advise on sales strategies and growth for new offerings, and develop segment-specific fundraising strategies. The role also involves leading the marketing of alternative investment offerings, managing fundraising activities, developing marketing collateral, and engaging advisors and clients through events and campaigns. Client portfolio reviews, including alternative portfolio analysis and implementation guidance, performance attribution, and fund commentary are also part of the role. Furthermore, the position drives internal business planning and strategy, manages the team’s revenue model, oversees financial and operational reporting, and trains new team members. The role includes leading staffing assignments for junior team members and mentoring their development, including supporting a new team build-out in Salt Lake City.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role.
  • Five (5) years of experience analyzing large and diverse datasets using Microsoft Excel to evaluate the financial and operational viability of various service lines, present findings, and report to senior management.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with financial markets and investment instruments, specifically private markets funds such as: private equity, private real estate, private credit, and direct company co-investments.
  • Five (5) years of experience analyzing business financials and identifying and evaluating key components supporting forward looking top line growth trends that support a specific valuation.
  • Five (5) years of experience applying International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to assess the completeness and accuracy of company books and records.
  • Five (5) years of experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and PowerBI to create presentations displaying the results of quantitative and qualitative analysis, and present these findings to senior leadership teams.

  • Domestic travel required about 10% of the time to visit clients and alternative asset managers to enable continued growth of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Help establish and manage relationships with external managers, including new product development and coordination of external sales professionals.

  • Serve as an alternative investment strategist, helping establish team view on current private market trends and opportunities and providing insight to clients and internal GS constituents.
  • Provide input on sales strategy across client segments, advising on growth strategies for new offerings and solutions, and develop segment specific fundraising strategies.
  • Help lead marketing of alternative investment offerings across GS client segments and regions including managing overall fundraising activity, developing marketing collateral and strategy pitch and engaging advisors and clients by organizing road shows, events, and campaigns.
  • Lead client portfolio reviews, including alternative portfolio analysis and implementation guidance, and provide performance attribution and fund commentary.
  • Drive internal business planning and strategy, managing the team’s revenue model and financial/operational reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Train new team members to help oversee process and refine modeling.
  • Lead staffing assignments for junior team, ensuring balanced split of work amongst analysts.
  • Mentor and facilitate development of junior team, including specifically for new team build out in Salt Lake City.
