About The Position

The Vice President, Asset Management is a pivotal leadership role at EFF, advancing our mission to ensure that every high-impact charter school serving historically marginalized communities has a clear pathway to affordable, sustainable financing. Reporting to the Principal, Asset Management, the Vice President will serve as a senior steward of EFF's lending portfolio — bringing rigor, strategic insight, and deep sector expertise to all dimensions of portfolio and loan monitoring. The Vice President will own the full lifecycle of portfolio oversight: tracking school performance, monitoring covenant compliance, and producing high-quality internal and external reporting materials. They will serve as EFF's lead relationship manager with rating agencies and will play a central role in maintaining EFF's portfolio report to the bond market — translating complex data into compelling, investor-ready narratives. Beyond core portfolio responsibilities, the Vice President will contribute to high-priority special projects and serve as a thought leader across all aspects of charter school lending and investing. This is a role for a leader who thrives at the intersection of financial rigor and mission impact — someone with the technical depth to manage a complex portfolio and the judgment to navigate mission-driven capital deployment.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of overall professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience in senior charter school lending, credit, asset management, portfolio management roles or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills, including expertise in reviewing financial statements, loan performance, budgets, operating reports, and borrower/project-level data.
  • In-depth experience with conducting complex credit analyses and the dynamic factors that impact school borrowers' performance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the various structures and covenants found in charter school transactions.
  • Ability to identify portfolio risks, monitor trends, and communicate clear recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and relationships across a portfolio.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely.
  • High attention to detail and sound judgment, especially when reviewing compliance, reporting, covenant, or performance-related materials.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills with an ability to clearly explain and answer questions about product-related details.
  • Customer service orientation and ability to collaborate across functional areas, in particular with outreach, underwriting, and loan operations teams.
  • Commitment to EFF’s mission and interest in supporting high-quality facilities for public charter schools and historically underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplace and investment practices.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (8-10 times per year).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee EFF’s annual and ongoing portfolio review process, ensuring comprehensive monitoring of financial performance, enrollment trends, and academic outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain risk monitoring frameworks, early warning indicators, portfolio health metrics, and reporting dashboards to identify emerging borrower risks before they become material issues.
  • Lead the assessment, remediation, and resolution of covenant breaches, financial distress, operational challenges, and other borrower performance concerns.
  • Ensure timely escalation of material portfolio risks to the Principal, Asset Management and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Direct all aspects of borrower covenant monitoring and compliance management across the portfolio.
  • Enhance established processes and controls to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and documentation of covenant compliance, reporting obligations, and legal requirements.
  • Communicate with school leaders and governing boards on corrective action plans, compliance remediation strategies, and operational improvements necessary to maintain compliance with loan agreements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external legal counsel, consultants, auditors, and advisors on compliance matters, risk mitigation strategies, and borrower interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with all bond disclosure, reporting, and investor-related obligations, including EMMA filings, continuing disclosures, and portfolio reporting requirements.
  • Lead the modernization and continuous improvement of EFF’s asset management infrastructure, processes, and technology platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, artificial intelligence, data analytics, workflow tools, and portfolio management systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and decision-making.
  • Partner with technology, operations, and data teams to develop dashboards, portfolio monitoring tools, automated compliance tracking systems, and predictive risk management capabilities.
  • Champion a culture of innovation and operational excellence that leverages technology to improve borrower outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
  • Serve as EFF’s primary relationship manager with rating agencies.
  • Lead preparation of portfolio performance materials, investor presentations, rating agency submissions, and credit-related communications.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen EFF’s credit profile, improve portfolio performance metrics, and support favorable rating agency outcomes.
  • Represent EFF in external meetings, conferences, investor discussions, and industry forums as a senior leader and subject matter expert.
  • Lead multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and external partners to execute portfolio initiatives, technology improvements, compliance projects, strategic analyses, and borrower support efforts.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, resource allocations, and success metrics for major initiatives.
  • Drive accountability and effective execution across stakeholders while maintaining strong attention to detail and operational rigor.
