About The Position

Jackson Health System is seeking a transformational and dynamic operational nursing executive to serve as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Jackson Memorial Medical Center, home to Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH)—with more than 1,550 licensed beds, JMH is both a referral center and a magnet for medical research. This tertiary acute-care flagship facility is the principal teaching hospital for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with more than 5,000 admissions, 12,000 observation cases, 16,000 surgeries, 100,000 adult emergency visits, and 4,200 trauma visits annually. This executive role also provides leadership and oversight for the nationally acclaimed Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center, ranked #28 out of 1,049 hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and recognized among the top 3% of rehabilitation hospitals in the country, as well as Holtz Children's Hospital—ranked among the Top 10 children's hospitals in Florida—and The Women's Hospital, the only academic medical center in South Florida offering comprehensive high-risk pregnancy and high-risk neonatal care under one roof. Reporting to the Jackson Memorial Medical Center SVP and CEO, the VP and Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides strategic and operational leadership to advance exceptional patient care and system performance across the medical center. Grounded in High Reliability Organization principles, this executive drives a culture of excellence, elevating quality, safety, patient experience, financial efficiency, and continuous improvement through evidence-based management and strong operational, administrative and clinical partnerships. The VP and COO defines the vision for operational excellence, leading enterprise-wide process optimization, external stakeholder engagement, and the alignment of hospital operations with systemwide priorities. This leader ensures outstanding patient- and family-centered outcomes through disciplined performance management, strategic resource stewardship, and seamless coordination across all hospital departments. The VP and COO strengthen operational infrastructure, expand throughput and access, elevate service line performance, and foster high employee engagement while supporting strong collaboration with operational leaders and key stakeholders across the system. Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Distinguished executive operational leadership experience within complex safety-net or academic health systems serving diverse and underserved populations.
  • Led a major academic medical center or multi-site hospital enterprise, demonstrating the strategic insight and operational discipline required to guide large-scale, high-acuity environments.
  • Proven record of driving systemwide performance—advancing quality, optimizing throughput and length of stay, strengthening access, and elevating patient experience through high-reliability and evidence-based operational practices.
  • Communicate effectively and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
