About The Position

The Vice Chair of Education Administration is responsible and accountable for administrative partnership with the dean of Education for the respective site, oversight and execution of the College of Medicine and Science Operating Plan along with assigned work unit plans, and participation in Enterprise-wide education administrative activities. The role involves sharing best practices, initiating quality management systems, and ensuring staffing aligns with workload metrics. The Vice Chair is expected to provide strong leadership, guidance, and direction to achieve operational and service excellence and effective, compliant management of all Education administration activities at Mayo Clinic. This includes participating in system-wide strategic planning for Education and performing system-wide administrative functions to support the institutional mission and Education vision. The Vice Chair will collaborate with physicians, scientists, and administration leaders across Mayo Clinic to translate the institution's mission and Education vision into daily operations. Responsibilities include administrative oversight of assigned support units within the College of Medicine, strategic planning, financial management, and performance management of assigned units and sites. The role also involves administrative oversight of the Education Strategic Project Portfolio and/or Education Administration Integration initiatives, and providing support as an Administrator/Committee Secretary. Furthermore, the Vice Chair is responsible for the administrative oversight of College of Medicine regulation and accreditation requirements, particularly related to Higher Learning Commission accreditation, and assumes administrative responsibility for special projects. This includes analyzing complex organizational relationships, developing recommendations for change, and communicating these to appropriate groups. Collaboration with the enterprise education leadership team on strategic planning and management of financial and capital resources is key, as is providing an institutional perspective to departmental and program decisions to integrate with Clinical Practice, Research, and Human Resources. Establishing and nurturing external relationships with agencies and organizations to enhance the education environment and visibility of Mayo's Education programs is also a critical function, along with active involvement in external academic medicine professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Monitor revenue, expenses, and productivity metrics; identify risks and opportunities for financial optimization.
  • Collaborate with finance partners to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and stewardship of resources.
  • For specific site and enterprise areas assigned, lead day-to-day administrative operations, ensuring efficient, scalable, and compliant processes.
  • Where appropriate, oversee space planning, facilities coordination, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure effective administrative support for clinical, research, and educational missions.
  • For assigned areas of responsibilities (to include both site and enterprise areas of operation) provide leadership and oversight for HR functions, including staffing models, workforce planning, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Partner with HR to support recruitment, retention, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support governance processes, policies, and internal controls.
  • Serve as the primary administrative liaison between assigned site and enterprise roles and college leadership, shared student and business services, academic services and external partners.
