About The Position

Under general direction, performs laboratory animal care and performs technical procedures requiring advanced training, experience, and expertise on a regular basis. This role involves participating in project-specific work, assisting in staff training, performing multiple technical or surgical procedures at an advanced level, and working in a Level 3 containment area.

Requirements

• Graduate of a veterinary technician/technology diploma program or related university degree in biological/animal/veterinary sciences or equivalent.
• Three years of related experience with a minimum of two years as a Veterinary Technologist.
• Physically capable of performing the required duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
• No history of animal-related allergies.
• Must be willing to participate in the University Health and Safety program, which includes the requirement to undergo an immunization program depending on the work environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).
• Ability to take direction and work independently.
• May be required to be in possession of a valid Provincial Class "G" driver's license.
• Ability to work weekends and holidays as required.

Nice To Haves

• Being a Registered Laboratory Animal Technician through the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties in the Level 3 containment area.
• Wears personal protective equipment as appropriate.
• Performs the duties of a Veterinary Technologist II.
• Other related duties as required.
