About The Position
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity that has been operating for nearly 150 years, providing care, comfort, and compassion to animals in need across Ontario. The Society values all animals and advocates for their respectful and kind treatment, striving to keep pets and families together through various community support services. This Veterinary Technician position, funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, involves providing care for animals, including compassionate pre and post-op support. The role ensures a healthy environment for all residents through routine grooming, housekeeping, and disinfection accountabilities such as kennel cleaning and laundry. While essential animal care and associated activities are the primary focus, customer service and related client administrative duties are paramount to the clinic and the success of this position.
Requirements
- Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
Responsibilities
- Greeting clients and answering general inquiries regarding pre and post-op care
- Providing pre and post op care to the animals in our trust, under the direction of the RVT’s and Veterinarians
- Handling and soothing animals during examinations, treatments, and vaccinations
- Recording relevant information about animals, including weight and types of medication given
- General housekeeping and/or disinfection of the clinic including sterilization of hospital/medical equipment, cleaning floors and counter tops, crates etc.
- Conduct animal transfers where appropriate
