Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working as a Veterinary Technician
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Experience interacting professionally with clients and customers
- A commitment to patient safety and low-stress handling
- Strong attention to detail
- The ability to take accurate patient histories and medical notes
- An understanding of common infectious and zoonotic diseases
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Availability to work weekends, typically every other weekend
Nice To Haves
- Experience with surgical technician responsibilities—including anesthetizing, maintaining, monitoring, and recovering patients perioperatively
- Experience with surgery, advanced animal care, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory testing, radiology, and pharmacology
Responsibilities
- Assisting doctors during examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Safely restraining pets in a way that allows necessary procedures to be completed with minimal stress
- Taking accurate patient histories and medical notes for the veterinarian
- Obtaining temperatures, samples, and vital signs as requested
- Drawing up vaccines and flea and tick preventives as directed
- Assisting with medication fills and refills at the veterinarian’s request
- Anticipating doctor needs during routine examinations and surgical visits
- Cleaning and preparing exam rooms for incoming patients in accordance with OSHA guidelines
- Following appropriate protocols related to infectious and zoonotic diseases
- Supporting measures designed to reduce or eliminate disease transmission
- Assisting with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory testing, radiology, and other technical procedures based on experience
- Supporting surgical and perioperative patient care based on skill level
- Occasionally assisting with our outdoor vaccine clinic
