About The Position

The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is growing and seeking passionate Veterinary Technicians. This role is ideal for both new Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) graduates and experienced technicians. UWVC is a nationally recognized veterinary teaching hospital that emphasizes continuous learning, mentoring, and exceptional patient care. The position involves providing skilled technical support for the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service, with occasional assistance in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Intermediate Care Ward (ICW). Technicians will collaborate with board-certified specialists, residents, interns, and veterinary students, gaining expertise with a diverse range of complex cases. This is a 100% FTE (40 hours a week) position with an anticipated schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
  • Proven proficiency with IV catheter placements
  • Proven proficiency with sedation administration and monitoring
  • Proven knowledge of basic nursing skills
  • Experience with client communication
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) Required
  • High School Diploma Required

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, completes, and documents basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (15%)
  • Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (10%)
  • Assists with the execution of more complex animal care procedures and affiliated activities (15%)
  • Monitors animal health status and records, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and ensures care plans are completed and recorded in the medical record (10%)
  • Tracks supply inventory levels and places replenishment orders (10%)
  • Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (20%)
  • Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (10%)
  • Completes routine laboratory tests and collects specimen according to established medical orders and care plans (10%)
