About The Position

The Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in the triage, stabilization, treatment, and ongoing management of emergency and critically ill patients. This position requires the ability to independently carry out treatment plans, anticipate patient needs, and respond effectively to rapidly changing clinical situations. Technicians collaborate closely with ER clinicians, ICU teams, specialty services, assistants, and rotating doctors to ensure timely, efficient, and compassionate care. The role also includes client communication during high-stress situations, coaching and mentoring support staff, and coordinating patient flow between departments.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, electronic medical records, and data entry.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.

Nice To Haves

  • LVT, CVT, or RVT credential preferred
  • Previous experience working in an emergency or specialty veterinary hospital preferred
  • RECOVER CPR certification a plus.
  • Experience managing critically ill and hospitalized patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and stabilize emergency patients while providing immediate lifesaving care under veterinary direction.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments, recognize critical changes, and communicate findings promptly.
  • Execute treatment plans using sound clinical judgment and adapt quickly to evolving patient conditions.
  • Perform CPR according to RECOVER guidelines and support post-resuscitation care.
  • Place and manage IV catheters, central lines, IO catheters, arterial lines, urinary catheters, chest tubes, and other advanced access devices.
  • Support oxygen therapy, manual and mechanical ventilation, and advanced patient monitoring.
  • Administer anesthesia, sedation, CRIs, blood products, and medications through multiple routes.
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care, including nutritional support, pain management, and recumbent patient care.
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect and process diagnostic samples, and assist with laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with radiography and operate in-house diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Follow strict isolation, PPE, sterilization, and infection control protocols.
  • Support patient aftercare, hospital cleanliness, and overall departmental efficiency.
