About The Position

This full-time position involves working Monday-Friday, with three 12-hour shifts and participation in an on-call rotation. The role focuses on anesthesia, surgery, and delivering exceptional patient care. You will build your career alongside board-certified surgeons, utilizing advanced anesthesia and surgical nursing skills daily. The Surgery team works with board-certified surgeons to provide advanced orthopedic, soft tissue, thoracic, and minimally invasive procedures. As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will play an essential role before, during, and after surgery, utilizing technical expertise while growing through mentorship, collaboration, and advanced specialty medicine. This role is suitable for experienced surgery technicians or Licensed Veterinary Technicians with a strong anesthesia background, offering opportunities to expand skills while working with an exceptional team committed to outstanding patient care.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, preferably in specialty surgery, anesthesia, emergency, or specialty medicine
  • Strong understanding of anesthesia monitoring and recovery for orthopedic, abdominal, thoracic, and minimally invasive procedures
  • Experience with surgical preparation, patient positioning, sterile technique, and surgical instrumentation
  • Knowledge of CRI calculations, anesthetic medications, and perioperative nursing care
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, diagnostic imaging, laboratory procedures, and patient assessment
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English

Nice To Haves

  • LVT, CVT, or RVT preferred, but not required
  • additional language skills are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Partnering closely with our board-certified surgeons throughout the surgical process
  • Assisting with patient assessments, diagnostics, treatment plans, and surgical procedures
  • Planning, inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia for a wide variety of surgical cases
  • Serving as both a circulating nurse and scrub technician during orthopedic, soft tissue, thoracic, and minimally invasive procedures
  • Preparing patients for surgery, including clipping, surgical prep, positioning, and instrumentation
  • Monitoring patients closely throughout anesthesia and recovery while advocating for patient safety
  • Calculating and administering anesthetic medications and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
  • Providing exceptional nursing care before and after surgery
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and communicating effectively with the surgical team
  • Supporting clients with compassion and professionalism throughout their pet's surgical experience
