About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Team in Peoria, AZ! This role is responsible for providing nursing care to stable patients, preparing patients for surgery, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, assisting surgeons, performing pre-operative and post-operative patient care, placing catheters, administering medications, obtaining diagnostic samples, and communicating with clients regarding post-operative care. The position requires a commitment to enriching lives through remarkable care for pets and the ability to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. A rotating on-call schedule is required after training.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
  • Rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including patient assessments, anesthetic preparation, and surgical site preparation.
  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia for a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patient vital signs during anesthesia and recognize/respond appropriately to changes in patient status.
  • Set up and maintain anesthesia monitoring equipment, ventilators, fluid pumps, and warming devices.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by maintaining a sterile field, performing surgical scrub and gowning techniques, and properly passing instruments and supplies.
  • Prepare, clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Perform pre-operative and post-operative patient care, including pain management, bandaging, drain care, and patient recovery monitoring.
  • Place peripheral intravenous catheters, administer medications and fluids, and calculate and maintain CRIs accurately.
  • Obtain diagnostic samples and perform treatments as directed by clinicians.
  • Communicate with clients regarding post-operative care instructions and patient updates.
  • Collaborate closely with teams in other services to provide exceptional patient care.
