About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Oncology Technician/Assistant to join our dedicated oncology team. In this role, you will work closely with our veterinary oncologists and medical staff to provide exceptional care to pets diagnosed with cancer. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare, a background in veterinary care, and an interest in oncology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, animal behavior, and procedures.
  • Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working with potentially ill and difficult-to-handle animals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide compassionate and clear explanations to clients.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred.
  • Experience in veterinary oncology or a similar specialty is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience with chemotherapy, radiation, and other oncology treatments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the care and monitoring of oncology patients, including those receiving chemotherapy, and other advanced treatments.
  • Administer chemotherapy drugs, supportive medications, and IV fluids under the supervision of the oncologist. Assist in preparing and ensuring the safe handling of cytotoxic medications.
  • Collect diagnostic samples (blood, urine, biopsy, etc.) for testing and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures (X-rays, CT scans, Ultrasounds, etc.).
  • Communicate with pet owners about treatment plans, medication administration, side effects, and post-treatment care instructions.
  • Assist with routine and specialized procedures such as catheter placement, blood draws, and administering injections.
  • Prepare and process laboratory samples, run diagnostics, and assist in interpreting results.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for oncology patients, including treatment plans, progress notes, and any adverse reactions.
  • Ensure that chemotherapy and other oncology-related supplies are stocked and properly maintained.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to ensure a high standard of care and patient comfort.
