Veterinary Technician - Ophthalmology
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician in Ophthalmology. This role involves diagnosing and treating ophthalmic diseases in companion animals, performing basic and advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests, and assisting with a range of procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision. The technician will also be involved in patient care under sedation or anesthesia, organizing specialized equipment, and educating clients. Responsibilities
- Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
- Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
- Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
- Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
- Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
- For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
- Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
- Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care
