About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Part Time Veterinary Technician to join our Ophthalmology team! This role is for individuals passionate about veterinary medicine who want to help give the gift of vision and improve the quality of life of patients. The position offers the opportunity to experience both medicine and surgery, and to help build and organize a growing service alongside dedicated, high-skilled veterinary professionals. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam.
Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.).
Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries.
Perform outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses).
Assist with surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery.
For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various routes, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.).
Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care.
