About The Position

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is opening a second location in Dunwoody, Georgia, in October 2026. They are building their founding Medical Oncology team and seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVsTs), and skilled Veterinary Assistants. Selected candidates will train at their Marietta hospital starting August 2026 before transitioning to the new Dunwoody facility. The role involves advanced medicine, patient advocacy, and oncology care. The hospital also anticipates future opportunities in Surgery and Anesthesia, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Neurology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, and Emergency and Critical Care.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary hospital setting.
  • Experience supporting patient care in Specialty, Emergency, Internal Medicine, ICU, or high-volume General Practice environments.
  • Strong veterinary nursing and patient care skills.
  • Confidence with venipuncture, sample collection, and laboratory diagnostics.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and emotionally sensitive environment.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Lift, carry, and assist in restraining patients weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance available when appropriate.
  • Safely handle animals of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical conditions.
  • Perform repetitive tasks requiring manual dexterity, including patient restraint, venipuncture, medication administration, and equipment operation.
  • Work in a fast-paced specialty veterinary hospital environment with frequent movement between treatment, exam, and specialty care areas.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, specialists, veterinarians, and team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).
  • Previous experience supporting Oncology, Internal Medicine, Emergency, or Specialty Medicine.
  • Chemotherapy administration experience.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and NIOSH chemotherapy safety standards.
  • RECOVER CPR Certification.
  • Strong client communication and education skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Monitor patients receiving chemotherapy and advanced oncology therapies.
  • Assess patient comfort, quality of life, and treatment response.
  • Support recheck appointments and ongoing treatment plans.
  • Assist with long-term management of oncology patients.
  • Prepare and administer chemotherapeutic agents in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Follow OSHA and NIOSH hazardous drug handling guidelines.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain accurate treatment records and medication documentation.
  • Support safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemotherapy agents.
  • Perform venipuncture, blood collection, and laboratory sample processing.
  • Assist with fine needle aspirates, biopsies, and staging diagnostics.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging support.
  • Prepare patients for oncology-related procedures and treatments.
  • Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, and expected outcomes.
  • Discuss treatment schedules and follow-up care requirements.
  • Provide compassionate support during emotionally sensitive conversations.
  • Reinforce quality-of-life considerations and home-care instructions.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for clients throughout the treatment process.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with Oncology, Internal Medicine, Emergency, ICU, and specialty teams.
  • Support continuity of care across multiple departments.
  • Maintain oncology treatment areas and equipment.
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient safety and medical excellence.
