Requirements

Minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital preferred.

Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

Perform physical exams, accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
Perform phlebotomy.
Place peripheral intravenous catheters in cephalic veins.
Calculate basic medical math.
Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.
Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
Safely dispense, reconstitute, and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.
Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.
Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration.
Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education on handling patient eliminations after chemotherapy, handling oral chemotherapy at home, chemotherapy and radiation side effects, and oral medication administration.
Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and be able to converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization.
Quickly and competently facilitate incoming calls.
Have knowledge of tumor types.
Understand diagnostic work-up protocols (including oncology-specific terminology for each tumor/cancer type per each hospital’s protocol).
Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Maintain hospital for day-to-day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).
