About The Position

The Large Animal Hospital Nursing Care Supervisor will be an integral member of the team, working with the Veterinary Technician manager to develop the nursing team to promote patient advocacy and provide high-quality patient care for hospitalized patients. Primary job duties include providing positive leadership for assigned staff and ongoing mentoring of the team members. This position is a working supervisor position with the expectation that the candidate will maintain oversight of the nursing care team while working alongside the group performing patient care as needed on primarily horses, but also including goats, cows, sheep, pigs, llamas and alpacas. Professionalism and flexibility are important aspects in this pivotal role as an individual must communicate effectively and demonstrate critical thinking strategies. The individual will actively participate in the screening and selection of new team members and provide on boarding and training for the staff alongside their manager. This is a full-time, benefited position and is considered essential personnel. Education verification, background checks, and health assessments are required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Credentialed veterinary technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) or Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM)
  • At least three years relevant experience within a veterinary university system.
  • At least two years supervisory/leadership experience in a veterinary setting.
