About The Position

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM) at Rowan University is seeking a skilled and motivated Technician Lead to support the Large Animal Field Service team. This role combines advanced technical responsibilities with frontline leadership and operational support within a dynamic ambulatory clinical service. The Technician Lead will provide high-quality veterinary technical assistance in the field while also delivering day-to-day oversight of support staff, supporting administrative, budget, and procurement operations, and serving as the service representative at Lead Technician meetings in collaboration with the Technician Manager. This position is ideal for an experienced veterinary technician who thrives in a collaborative clinical environment and is ready to contribute to service excellence, team development, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent).
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of veterinary technical experience, with large animal experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting administrative, inventory, or procurement processes is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in ambulatory/field environments and handle physical demands of large animal practice.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate service vehicles.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced veterinary technical support for large animal ambulatory services, including patient restraint, diagnostics, treatments, anesthesia assistance, and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain field vehicles, equipment, and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Assist clinicians with medical record documentation and discharge processes as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and professionalism in field settings.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and coordination of support staff within the Large Animal Field Service team.
  • Support workflow organization, task delegation, and operational consistency.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and mentorship of technicians and support personnel.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment.
  • Support administrative functions, including scheduling coordination, documentation, and service communication.
  • Assist with budget-related activities, expense tracking, and financial documentation.
  • Support procurement processes, including ordering, inventory monitoring, and vendor coordination.
  • Help identify workflow challenges and contribute to operational improvements.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the Large Animal Field Service at Lead Technician meetings with the Technician Manager.
  • Communicate service needs, operational updates, and resource considerations.
  • Support alignment between clinical, operational, and administrative priorities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned.
  • Support departmental and hospital initiatives as needed.
